Prayer
God as we turn from the reading of your Word to the preaching of it we as you to quicken our hearts and minds after you.
As we meditate on David’s stress and sorrow we take comfort in your glorious hope and peace.
As we think on Saul’s pride and anger we trust with joy in your forgiveness.
As we remember Jonathan’s precarious situation we rejoice that you our Heavenly Father are not like Saul his earthly one.
Let us rejoice in the care and protection you show for your anointed even in the face of trial and be encouraged that in Christ we too are yours to be cared for.
We lift up our brothers and sisters who like David are persecuted because of your name and we ask that like David they would stand strong in the face of it to win you glory.
May we be as such as our time comes.
Please be with us now as we study together your Word.
Amen

So to YOU oh wretched sinner, will you recognize your soon demise, will you receive todays report, will you take your seat at the feast of Christ whose blood was spilt to invite you in?… Or will you stay seated with Saul.
Ask if anyone would like to stand and make a profession of faith in Christ.
So to YOU oh follower of Christ, will you recognize the brevity of this life, will you repeat todays report to all those who’s earthly seats will soon become vacant, and will you rejoice this day that one day soon you like David will recline with Christ the King!
Prayer
My Lord, I have nothing to do in this world but to seek and serve you.
I have nothing to do with a heart and its affections but to breathe after you.
I have nothing to do with my tongue and pen but to speak to you, and for you, and to publish your glory and your will.
What have I to do with all my reputation, and interest in my friends, but to increase your church, and propagate your holy truth and service?
What have I to do with my remaining time, even these last and languishing hours, but to look up unto you, and wait for your grace, and your salvation?
RICHARD BAXTER
Grant, Almighty God, that as we now carry about us this mortal body, and nourish through sin a thousand deaths within us—O grant that we may ever by faith direct our eyes toward heaven, and to that incomprehensible power which is to be manifested at the last day by Jesus Christ our Lord, so that in the midst of death we may hope that you will be our Redeemer, and enjoy that redemption which he completed when he rose from the dead; and not doubt but that the fruit which he then brought forth by his Spirit will come also to us, when Christ himself shall come to judge the world; and may we thus walk in the fear of your name, that we may be really gathered among his members, to be made partakers of that glory, which by his death he has procured for us.
Amen.
