A sermon,

11 About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, 13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. 14 But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

Introduction
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.
In this passage the writer is giving a sharp reproof of the Hebrews that he is writing this letter too calling them out for there lazyness in the word. He says in verse 12 “For though by this time you ought to be teachers” but you are not even disciples capable of comprehending deeper truths of Gods word, “you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk” what the writer is trying to get across to his aduence is that they ought to be ashamed of themselves for the need of being retaught the “basic principles” or as though he had said to them you need to relearn your ABC’s. This should concern us today in the church as our young men know nothing of God nor his ways. And dare I say even the older men. For you can see the lasyness of all Men young and old in the word of God, and there is no desire to change that. For most of us remain in the understanding fitted for children, and not men seeking to please an Almighty and an all powerful God at any cost. My beloved brothers and sisters I stress to you today the burden on my heart in this passage, it brakes me to say that our churches are no longer filled with Godly men who can discern the word of God and behave like little boys who just want to play games look at Facebook play around with girls. They do not want to learn the word of God, they do not want to be a Godly man, they do not want to marry a Godly woman, they do not want to raise Godly children, they do not want to work hard for their employer at their jobs ( and Godly men work hard at their jobs for the Glory of God col 3:22-24) and most importantly they do not want to know God! What happened to the men of God? Beloved this cuts me to the heart! Because I know that it hurts Christs church when men are not present active and leaders in the church, and when men are not active in Gods church what happens? We leave worldliness to slid in and take over, don’t believe me? is it not a coincidence that in an age that feminism is taking over in our men are stepping aside and letting women take the rolls that God has clearly given to the men in the church? talks about this guys “And I will make mere lads their princes, And capricious children will rule over them” why is tis a bad thing because “Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child” . says “Their oppressors are children And women rule over them” The reference to women may mean that wives were influencing their husbands who were rulers, or that the male leaders lacked vigor. speaking of when men put down the roll they have been given we can see the direct result of the outcome in our vary own cultural, this is what God does when a nation strays away from him and the men in the church are silent and will not man up to learn the word of God. the Lord would raise up foolish, weak leadership. Inexperienced boys and children. And that is why we see so many so called pastor today dressing like they do because they are not men of God but rather boys who are playing the roll of pastor in there churches.

So what do we do?
a) Enter the gymnasium of divine discipline.
Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; 8 for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
The word “train” from this text comes from the word gumnos, which means “naked” and is the word from which we derive our English word gymnasium. In traditional Greek athletic contests, the participants competed without clothing, so as not to be hindered. Therefore, the word “train” originally carried the literal meaning, “to exercise naked.
Now Paul is not telling us to train in the nude and I would never commend that what so ever and ( optional A Massachusetts man was been charged with stretching the spirit of the Planet Fitness “judgement free zone” slogan after allegedly stripping at the front desk of a gym and exercising in the nude. )but he was giving us an example to be lead bye that in our work out with Christ we should remove any and all obstacles that would hinder your growth. Just as the athletes discarded everything and competed gumnos, free from everything that could possibly burden them, so we must get rid of every encumbrance, every association, habit, and tendency which impedes godliness. If we are to excel, we must strip ourselves to a lean, spiritual nakedness
Another example Paul gives us.
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
When one seriously trains, he willingly undergoes hours of discipline and even pain so as to win the prize — running 10,000 miles to run 100 yards at one’s best. The successful Christian life is a sweaty affair!
Many men in the church today are not like this but are lazy in God’s word! And would rather indulge in literally any other activity and keep their minds off from God.
And I will admit I can do the same thing in my life and I will give you an example of it, I like to play from time to time on my ps4 and there is nothing wrong with taking some time to enjoy what you like to do in your free time whether it be playing a game or fishing, hunting, reading and so on. But in this case I played a game and in 1 years’ time I had played 406 hours of this game that’s an average time of 1 hour and 10 mins every day now again there is nothing wrong with taking some relax time to do what you like but upon seeing this my heart sank because I know that year I did not spend nearly as much time in God’s word 406 hours is enough time to read the bible almost 6 times in one year it’s enough that you could read the new testament 22 times alone. Now I may step on some toes on this one but then I looked at my time I spent looking at my Facebook and it was over 18 hours a week that’s enough time to have a part time job if I spent that much time in one week every week for one year it would add to 936 hours a year that’s enough to read the bible 13.5 times! We have no excuse to not be in God’s word more if I add both my Facebook time and ps4 time it comes to almost 20 times. Now there is nothing wrong with doing things you like in your free time but I challenge you what to spend more time in Gods words because what we spend our time doing shows what we love and if you love God and his word you will show it there is no excuse to go and discipline yourself in Godliness, 12 mins a day is all it takes to read the bible in one year and if you cannot spare 12 mins of your day to the God that saved you and gives you every breath, if you cannot even do that then you are a part of the problem of the lack of men in the church today.
My question for you men today is are you willing to go through the hard work?
Are you willing to sweat spiritually?
Are you willing to entire into the gymnasium of divine discipline?
And are you willing to do it solely because you love our God?

II. Men growing in Christ to the Glory of God in their family.
a) Women love and obey your unbelieving husband.
Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct.
If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him.
Both Peter and Paul in these letters bid wives to be subject to their husband. who were united to unbelieving men before there salvation, he expressly reminds them of their duty, and brings forward a particular reason why they should be more carefully to obey, that they might by their honesty and decency persuade their husbands to the faith.
Sadly, I know way to many women that do not practice this and I know of serval incidences were the wife will divorce her unbelieving husband, and marry a Christian man. Beloved this is not biblical! Not one place in all of scripture can we see a Christian women divorcing her husband because he was not a Christian man.
Why? Because you are joined together by an indissoluble bond. 7 ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, 8 and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. 9 What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.
So for you women that do not have a believing husband keep on loving your husband and keep on showing him the love of Christ through your good deeds to him, and most importantly keep on praying for him.
b) The true Christian husband is to be as Christ was to his church
, Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her[1] In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body
Every man, by his very nature, loves himself. But no man can love himself without loving his wife. Therefore, the man who does not love his wife is a monster. Marriage was appointed by God on the condition that the two should be one flesh.
Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter against them.
Do not be bitter—ill-tempered and provoking. Many who are polite abroad, are rude and bitter at home because they are not afraid to be so there.
And men I can understand especially after a long day at work your tired you want to rest and relax on the couch with some peace and quiet. But the fact of the matter is we man have so much free time in our day, (and I’m not talking about if you work 12+ hours) but if you work a normal 9-5 job and come home after work sit on the couch and play games or watch the football game for the rest of the afternoon, sir you have way to much free time. Now God has told us in , Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways…Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house.” So what is he saying in this text? That those who desire to be partakers of the blessing of God must with sincerity of heart devote themselves wholly to him and his words ad ways.
So if we are to make our wives like fruitful vines we must nourish, care, protect, in the word, in prayer, and help them by any means posable. And what that means men is when we get off of work and mama has been slaving all day we pull into the drive way pray t God to give us the strength to help our wives with what they need and to be incentive to them, play with the kids feed them spiritually check on there hearts, then once they go to sleep sit down with mama again check on her heart and then go to bed tired.
Why? Because if we are to love our wife as Christ loves the church and we are to love our wives as our own body and help them grow into fruitful vines, then we will serve them, love them, and Gide them as we are commanded as men of God to do so in the Bible.
Bored men are dangerous men.
A man who was living with a woman not his wife. And I heard that they were attending a Bible study together. And I thought to myself, what hypocrisy. A man in adultery taking his adulterer to a Bible study? And somebody said, "Well he's interested in the Word." Don't tell me that, he's not interested in the Word. There is no appetite for the Word of God until there is a laying aside of wickedness. To have that desire then requires some strong repentance and confessi
22 Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

says “Their oppressors are children And women rule over them” The reference to women may mean that wives were influencing their husbands who were rulers, or that the male leaders lacked vigor. speaking of when men put down the roll they have been given we can see the direct result of the outcome in our vary own cultural, this is what God does when a nation strays away from him and the men in the church are silent and will not man up to learn the word of God. the Lord would raise up foolish, weak leadership.

Now Paul is not telling us to train in the nude and I would never commend that what so ever and A Massachusetts man was been charged with stretching the spirit of the Planet Fitness “judgement free zone” slogan after allegedly stripping at the front desk of a gym and exercising in the nude. but he was giving us an example to be lead bye that in our work out with Christ we should remove any and all obstacles that would hinder your growth.

Are you willing to sweat spiritually?
Are you willing to entire into the gymnasium of divine discipline?

And are you willing to do it solely because you love our God?
II. How men grow in Christ to the Glory of God in their family.
And are you willing to do it solely because you love our God?
a) Women love and obey your unbelieving husband.
II. How men grow in Christ to the Glory of God in their family.
Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct.
a) Women love and obey your unbelieving husband.
If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him.
Now a quick note to the women. You will not honor God by marrying a man that is an unbeliever and of this world. Do not expect God to bless your marriage when he clearly commands that we don’t in Paul writes “14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever?[1]” Paul gets this idea from Deu 22:10. But no you are called to marry a man that is ground in the faith and has his footing set on Christ.
But if you do then .
Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct.
If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him.
So for you women that do not have a believing husband keep on loving your husband and keep on showing him the love of Christ through your good deeds to him, and most importantly keep on praying for him.

An example lady’s of a man that is not Godly but will act like it to get you is like, a man who was living with a woman not his wife. And that they were attending a Bible study together. And I thought to myself, what hypocrisy. A man in adultery taking his adulterer to a Bible study? And somebody said, "Well he's interested in the Word." Don't tell me that, he's not interested in the Word. There is no appetite for the Word of God until there is a laying aside of wickedness. To have that desire then requires some strong repentance and confession.

b) The true Christian husband is to be as Christ was to his church

, Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her[1] In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body
So for you women that do not have a believing husband keep on loving your husband and keep on showing him the love of Christ through your good deeds to him, and most importantly keep on praying for him.

Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter against them.

And we don’t see the Godly biblical men in the church today. All we see is a bunch of boys that when they get home all they want to do is spend me time me time me time! And ignore there wife to the maximum ignore there kids and Bruch them aside so they can do what’s most important to them and that is themselves. They throw the word of God out the window and don’t lead there kids in the ways of the lord because “that’s the churches job not mine” excuse. Then they cant lead there wife in a bible study or in a devotional because she is to busy teaching him how to be a man.
III. How men grow in Christ to the Glory of Christ in their work/life in the world.
Oh! do make your households to be like flower-gardens; plant no thorns, and root out all ill weeds of discontent. Depend upon it, household happiness is a great means of promoting household holiness[3]
a) Work hard for the glory of God.
c) We need our men to grow up into Godliness.
Bondservants obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
You will be a curse to your family if you are not a blessing
b) Providing for your family is not an option it is a command.

But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever[2]
Wrenched men vs boy qualification.
c) Work hard in the faith for your church.
Now if you are a mature man in Christ but don’t know where to start I will give you the advice of C.H.Spurgon
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways[3]
Let Christian parents, forming a church in their house, look to the formation of the character of their children, especially their converted children, and let them not overlook their converted servants. With an ardent and a longing desire, strive to build them up in the faith, and help them to grow in grace, and in the knowledge of the Lord. You Christian fathers ought to take care, as far as your means allow, to provide your children with instructive books; I do not mean dull books, but good, interesting books, at once instructive and attractive, that may teach them the way of God more perfectly. Whenever you have the opportunity, let drop a word which will strike the child’s attention, and remain in its heart. Just as I, as a preacher, would never miss an opportunity of saying anything here which I met with in the week, and which I thought you ought to hear, so let the Christian father be studying each day how he may instruct the church in his house in the fear of the Lord more perfectly.[4]
Men we need to be sound in our faith and give up our childish ways. Why? Because in our modern-day American Christianity culture, we will not tolerate biblical, theological, or spiritual maturity in men we will not, we cannot have anything above mediocrity. (quality of being average or ordinary) well what do you mean? Of course, we want our men to grow into spiritual maturity. I can prove to you most don’t, what happens in most churches today when a young man is 16, 17, or 18 years old. And this young man is reading his Bible, he’s reading theology, and church history and has a passion for the word of God, for the people of God and the things of God. Do you know what happens in the average American church? We tell that young man well God must be calling you to preach, Why? Because you love the bible you love his word and theology. Now what we ought to say is well that just means that you’re a Christian. No in the modern day church because of the mediocrity of manhood and maturity the first thing we do is send him away and that he needs to stay away from us because we will not tolerate your passion. You need you got to seminary go get a preaching license and become a pastor so that I no longer feel guilty about my mediocre pursuits. And the church is the only pace in America were a man can be a Christian for 10, 20 ,30 years and say I know nothing about God. Were men stay baby’s in Christ a 10, 20 ,30-year-old baby, but any ware else I don’t care what it is. My Job for example that I’ve had for 5 years I would not have if I was the average Christian man in the church today. Why? Because the second my boss came to me and gave me a new hire to train and he asked me for advice you’ve been doing this for 5 years can you show me how to stack boxes and keep my pallets from falling and keep my production above 100%? And if I told him no I don’t know nothing about stacking I don’t know anything about order filling. That would be unacceptable at work after 5 years of employment there doing the same job day in and day out for 5 years. Yet we can have a christen men that have been in Christ for 10, 20 ,30 years and know no more then the day of their conversion.

Behold, what I have seen to be good and fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment in all the toil with which one toils under the sun the few days of his life that God has given him, for this is his lot. 19 Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil—this is the gift of God.[6]
