Eye Conditions
MYOPIA (Nearsighted)
Myopia is the inability of the eye to focus on distant objects.
Only objects that are near can be clearly distinguished.
So myopia is called nearsightedness.
The spiritual side of myopia is to have me vision.
A nearsighted view of life focuses only on what affects me.
HYPEROPIA (Farsighted)
Hyperopia is the inability of the eye to focus on close objects.
A person with hyperopia can see only distant objects clearly.
So the condition is called farsightedness.
The spiritual side of hyperopia is to overlook the things that are close (like friends and family) and only focus on far away (future) things.
STRABISMUS (Lazy Eye)
Strabismus is a condition where the eyes do not focus on the same object at the same time.
One eye focuses on one object while the other eye deviates to another object.
Strabismus is a lack of muscle coordination in the eye.
The stronger muscles will keep one eye in focus while the weaker muscles allow the other eye to wander.
The spiritual side of Strabismus is when we have one eye focused on the LORD and the other eye focused on the world.
ASTIGMATISM (Irregular Vision)
Astigmatism is a condition that takes place when parts of an image comes into focus in front of or behind the retina while other parts of the image are properly focused.
Astigmatism is a result of the cornea having a lumpy or irregular surface so that when light comes through it is bent into different angles causing blurred vision.
The spiritual side of Astigmatism is the fact that we all have perfect vision when we look through the perfect word of God, but sin causes our vision to be blurred.
PRESBYOPIA (Nearsighted and Farsighted)
Presbyopia is a condition where the eye lens grows hard and loses its elasticity.
This condition causes the lens to be unable bend the light properly, especially from close objects.
This is a normal condition that comes with age.
As this condition progresses and the lens hardens we can loose clarity of objects both near and distant.
The spiritual side of Presbyopia is experienced when we allow our heart to grow hard because of pain and sorrow or suffering and disappointment or sin.
CATARACTS (Blocked Vision)
Cataracts is a condition where the lens turns cloudy and blocks the light from passing through the retina.
It is a condition that mostly comes with age, but can also be caused by injury of disease.
Once the lens becomes cloudy, it is not able to repair itself.
The only way to restore sight is to surgically remove the cloudy lens.
Once the cloudy lens is removed, corrective lenses must be used to replace the cloudy lens.
The spiritual side of cataracts is reflected in our lives when we allow the desire for sin and the things of the world to have a place in our heart.
The moment we embrace sin and the world, or mans religion, our vision becomes cloudy and we loose sight of God.
14 In fact, their minds were grown hard and calloused [they had become dull and had lost the power of understanding]; for until this present day, when the Old Testament (the old covenant) is being read, that same veil still lies [on their hearts], not being lifted [to reveal] that in Christ it is made void and done away.
15 Yes, down to this [very] day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies upon their minds and hearts.
16 But whenever a person turns [in repentance] to the Lord, the veil is stripped off and taken away.
