A Christian in 2020 Must be in Christ

[Start with ]
2020 Facebook
2020 Problem: We’re addicted to Social Media and we don’t use it as a tool. We post without thinking like Christ.
2020 Gospel: We need wisdom like Christ. We need to talk like Christ. We need to...
mi: Post like Jesus.
Three Pictures
; Bloody doorposts and not everyone is saved. — THIS IS IN BECAUSE OF A RECENT FB POST.
Bloody doorposts and not everyone is saved. — THIS IS IN BECAUSE OF A RECENT FB POST.
; Fire from Heaven and no one listens. — HOW FUN WOULD THIS BE TO POST ON FB?
; Mountain - Transformed — Now that got their (not only five people’s) attention.
mi: Post like Jesus.
…because “all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” are in Christ.

…You are In Christ

Colossians 1:21–23 ESV
21 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.
Colossians 1.21-23

…Therefore talk Like Christ

Colossians 2.
Colossians 2:2–3 ESV
2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Why is Paul suffering?
The Colossian Problem.
The Facebook Problem.
My thoughts! Talking to a screen, not a person; Pride or Despair.
You post like Moses: If you do this, you’ll all be rescued.
You Post like Elijah: My God rules! But you’re still meh.
THEY WERE NOT THE POINT. Jesus is. AND JESUS IS COMPELLING.
The Facebook Vision
Hang on...
Accomplish?
Consider! (
Kind or Firm.
Look, the world NEEDS wisdom. And you want to look smart… And the church needs you to be smart...
But if the bloody doorposts and the fire from Heaven had been enough to save all and get everyone’s attention then Christ’s blood - God incarnate from Heaven would not have been necessary.
Thus Moses and Elijah learn on another mountain that “all the treasures” are hidden, and revealed, only in Christ.
And if Moses and Elijah learn as much, what ought we to learn and apply to our own lives?
mi: JESUS IS THE POINT OF ALL THINGS. YOU’RE IN JESUS so...Post like Jesus.
Gospel Point: Talk Like JESUS
Gospel Point: Talk Like JESUS
Q1. This lesson says that Jesus is the ‘better thing’ that we all need. Jesus is the “treasure of wisdom and knowledge.” How did Jesus talk to people and show that He was wise, smart…and God?
Q2. How do you sound when you talk? And what do other people say about your talking?
If the kiddos say something silly, laugh with them (“My dad says I talk too much!”). Well, only laugh if it’s silly. Make sure to show the kids the difference between THINKING about how we talk before we talk…and just blurting out words.
Q3. What’s one way that you wish that you could talk differently?
In 2020 Gospel-less talk travels faster than ever before. That we communicate Christ-centered words on Social Media is more important than ever.
Application Point:
Talk to your Family
Take some time this week to think about how Jesus talked. That’s really the key this week: THINK before you talk.
Then, talk to someone in your family. What do suppose Jesus would tell them or want them to be reminded of? Tell them that.
