Nose to the grindstone explanation.
This is the last sermon of 2019.
2000 years ago. Jesus would have been a teenager.
1000 years ago. Nothing that we would recognize that has any bearing on our lives.
1919 - Post world war 1.
Prohibition started.
Women receive that right to vote.
Woodrow wilson - President
Teddy Rosevelt died
Tennesee Ford was born.
Green Bay Packers were formed
Babe Ruth was sold to the Yankees for $125,000.
1969 - I was born.
We landed on the moon
Vietnam - Battle of Hamburger Hill.
2009 - Obama inaugurated as President.
Michael Jackson Dies
2019 - It has been a rough year. Brian and Tabitha had a tremendous loss. I lost my Grandmother, and my father. We had controversy in the Church. My son went through a divorce.
God was faithful.
We also look to the future.
We make plans for what a new year, and the start of a new decade will bring.
We take stock of where we are and make sure we are equipped to handle what will come.
Nose to the grindstone.
Personal growth as a believer.
2 Peter 1:1–2 NASB95
1 Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;
2 Peter 1:
Simon Peter - Fisherman / preacher. Lost/saved. Declaring his Humility before God.
Letter to believers. same kind as ours. Not Gentile and Jew, but believers and the apostles.
God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
God and of Jesus our Lord
2 Peter 1:3–4 NASB95
3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. 4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
2 Peter 1:3
Everything life godliness.
You have received all the tools you need.
Promises - Eternal Life.
Devine nature. His Holiness.
1 Peter 1:5–7 NASB95
5 who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, 7 so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
2 Peter 1:5–7 NASB95
5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.
1 Peter 1:
2 Peter
Faith is the beginning. It is the starting point. It is a driver’s license.
Now you have to get on your bike and ride.
Faith in Christ saves you, but faith without action/ change is not a saving faith. Faith compels a response on your part.
James 2:14 NASB95
14 What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?
James 2:26 NASB95
26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

Diligence -

Get after it. START. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

2 Peter 1:
2 Peter 1:8–9 NASB95
8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.
You will be used by the kingdom.
If you don’t you are useless.
Matthew 5:13 NASB95
13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.
