Why should we share Jesus?
Ephesians 2:
We are commissioned to Share Jesus
1. Christ commissioned (gave instructions, commanded) every Christian to verbally share the Gospel with lost people for the purpose of winning them to Himself.
Last week we looked at Philip who witnessed to the Ethiopian eunuch by verbally sharing what the Bible says about Jesus.
That is God’s will for each of us.
When it comes to sharing Jesus, no believer in Christ is exempt.
a.
Many Christians live their whole lives never sharing Jesus verbally with anyone.
All Christians, including all pastors, are to evangelize by verbally sharing the Gospel.
b.
Paul commanded his son in the ministry, Timothy, who served as a pastor, to fulfill his ministry by “Do[ing] the work of an evangelist” ().
Whenever Timothy preached the word of God, he was to share Jesus and call people to repent of their sins, believe in Jesus, and receive Him as Lord and Savior.
Jesus’ Commission in the Gospel of Matthew
Jesus’ first commission is found at the end of Matthew’s Gospel.
It is commonly referred to as the “Great Commission.”
Matthew
1. Jesus commanded His disciples to “make” new “disciples.”
Making disciples includes sharing Jesus with lost people and winning them to Christ.
Otherwise, there is no evangelism in the Great Commission.
a.
When God saves someone, He makes that person a new disciple.
People do not become a Christian through salvation and then later become a disciple of Jesus.
Instead, every Christian is a disciple of Jesus—either an obedient one or a disobedient one.
Jesus’ Commission in the Gospel of Mark
Mark 16:15-16
Again, Jesus gave comprehensive statements insisting that all believers are to share the Gospel with everyone throughout the entire world.
Every Christian is under obligation to share Jesus because all lost people need to hear the Gospel message.

Jesus’ Commission in the Gospel of Luke
Luke
1.
Before He ascended back to Heaven from the Mount of Olives, Jesus spoke these words to His disciples.
He emphasized to them the essential truths of the Gospel.
a. His death and His resurrection.
b.
He then laid down the truth that people must repent of their sins if they truly want to have their sins forgiven in salvation.
Repent means to do a spiritual “about-face,” to make a spiritual “U-turn.”
Repentance is a change of mind and heart that results in a change of life and action, all wrought by the Holy Spirit.
Repentance is still the message we are to emphasize when we share Jesus.
Jesus’ Commission in the Gospel of John
John’s Gospel is perhaps the most evangelistic of all the four Gospels.
Toward the end of this Gospel, Jesus commissioned His disciples to be His witnesses.
John’s Gospel is perhaps the most evangelistic of all the four Gospels.
Toward the end of this Gospel, Jesus commissioned His disciples to be His witnesses.
1. John stressed that Jesus was sent from God to make salvation available to all people.
The most famous verse of scripture in the Bible, , clearly states, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
Jesus affirmed in that text that God loves everyone in the world, and that anyone (whoever) can be saved.
Not all will be saved, but anyone can be saved.
God sent Jesus to earth to seek and to save lost people “for the Son of Man came to seek and save that which was lost”
And just as the Father sent Jesus to win the lost, Jesus also sent His disciples to win the lost.

1.
Here, Jesus stressed that the only power potent enough to make His disciples effective in sharing the Gospel was the power of the Holy Spirit.
Just as the Spirit had “come upon”
Mary when she supernaturally conceived Jesus, even so the Spirit would “come upon” them.
a.
Just as Jesus was formed supernaturally in Mary by the Spirit at the incarnation, Jesus would be formed supernaturally in every believer by the Spirit at regeneration.
Also, the Spirit would empower them supernaturally to be witnesses who would boldly, effectively, and verbally share Jesus with lost people.
