The Past is what it is, The Past!
The Past is what it is, The Past!
An elderly women took her husband to the doctor and said, Doc, I think he has alzheimer’s. He forgets things all the time. The doctor checks him out and says, “No it’s just natural effects of old age.
Have him start writing things down to help him remember. That night as they were getting ready for bed, his wife asked her husband, “if he would get some ice cream?” He said, “sure honey” She said, “you better write it down!”
He said, angrily, “I think i can remember ice cream!” She said, “I want chocolate topping, and a cherry on top and you better write that down so, you want forget.”
The husband who is really angry now said, “I don’t need to write it down. I can remember ice cream, chocolate topping, and a cherry on top!”
The husband goes into the kitchen and comes back with bacon, eggs, hash browns, and a glass of milk. The wife looks at him as says, “You forgot my toast.”
All joking aside.
If we are going to live up to our potential as a Christian.
Then we need to live the past in the past.
And live in the present.
The Bible gives us several verses on leaving the past in the past.
In the Old Testament.
18 Remember ye not the former things, Neither consider the things of old.
Isaiah
18 Remember ye not the former things, Neither consider the things of old.
19 Behold, I will do a new thing; Now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, And rivers in the desert.
Isaiah
In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul writes.
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Philippians
Christians who can get over the past are ineffective as a witness for our Lord Jesus Christ!
If you are still living in sin.
You don’t need to bring it in the new year.
Get rid of it.
Confess it.
Get forgiveness and move on.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
When God forgives you of your sins He forgets then and never brings them up from the past.
12 As far as the east is from the west, So far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If you keep living in the past you are falling for one of Satan’s tricks.
There is a saying, “When Satan reminds you of your past, remind him of his future!”
All of us here today still live in the past, we can’t help it, we are human.
We still live in the flesh.
We just can seem to get over are past mistakes.
We feel sorry for ourselves, and carry our past with us.
Today is the day, we start the New Year off with a bang, Lets put the past where it belongs in the past.
Let us all let go and let God hand it.
What do we carry from the past?
Our Sins
Past Mistakes
Guilt
Hurt
Shame
Feeling of being a Failure
Stupid Decisions
Disappointments
We seem we are unable to get over those things in the past.
Who gains from us living in the past?
Satan.
You say, “How do you know that?”
Satan likes it when Christians can’t get over the past.
People think, God could never forgive them of all the bad things they have done.
The past is used as your Stumbling Block.
The past can keep you weak.
The past will keep you living in sin.
The past will control your future, if you will let it.
The past will keep you from a true relationship with your Heavenly Father.
“We should learn from our past, not live in the past!”
We cannot change our past, we learn from it, and try not to make the same mistakes again.
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Philippians
There are things that we will never get over, but we can ask the Lord to help us deal with it.
Grief, for love ones who have past on.
We all will still have Financial Difficulties.
Health Problems and issues.
Bills
We have no control over those things.
The Bible tells us about, “what is a life?”
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Bible Believing Christians knows what the future holds.
We know unless we are Rapture up, we have an appointment with death.
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
We also know if we are save that is we die, we will be in the presents of the Lord.
8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
2 Corinthians
Not only that we will be escorted by angels.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Luke 1
That’s plural, meaning more then one.
Born again Christians, don’t need to worry about the future.
Born again Christians, needs to forget the things of the past.
Born again Christians, needs to live in the present.
The now and here.
