Established- To lay the foundation, validate, to make firm or stable
b: to introduce and cause to grow and multiply 〈establish grass on pasturelands〉
4a: to bring into existence
Matthew 1:23 NIV
23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
Quoting Is 7:14
His intention was to always be with us.
Genesis 3:8 NIV
8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Hebrews 8:10 NIV
10 This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
Revelation 21:3 NIV
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.
Hebrews 10:19–22 NLT
19 And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20 By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21 And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, 22 let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.
God’s presence protects us.
Exodus 14:19–20 NIV
19 Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, 20 coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.
Don’t give up when your pressed against a seemingly dead end. Every Christian will have a red sea experience.
We often have little idea how much God does to protect us from the attacks of our unseen enemies. We sometimes feel that we are overwhelmed in a present spiritual struggle, but we may not know what it would be like if the Lord pulled back His protection.
Psalm 57:1 NIV
1 Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.
Psalm 91:14–15 NIV
14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
God’s presence leads us.
Exodus 33:15–16 NIV
15 Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”
Numbers 14:44–45 NIV
44 Nevertheless, in their presumption they went up toward the highest point in the hill country, though neither Moses nor the ark of the Lord’s covenant moved from the camp. 45 Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who lived in that hill country came down and attacked them and beat them down all the way to Hormah.
They’d seen the promise land but believed the bad report.
They again rebelled against God.
Presumptuous people are not good to follow; arrogant, puffed up, disrespectful, transgressing, everyone else is wrong.
God’s presence changes us.
"The Church has been sleeping, but she is awake and putting on her armour now, and marching triumphantly. But do not make a mistake: God cannot do a great work through you without doing a great work in you first.Evan Roberts (1904)
2 Corinthians 3:16 NIV
16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV
18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
Of course, it could be said that the Jews are not the only ones with a veil … on their heart. Gentiles also have “veils” that separate them from seeing Jesus and His work for us clearly, and Jesus is more than able to take those veils away. This points to the essential need of prayer in evangelism. It has been rightly said that it is more important to talk to God about men than it is to talk to men about God, but we can do both of these important works.
Acts 4:13 NIV
13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
people will compare you to your former life, they will take note and hopefully they’ll be astonished.
God uses the new covenant to make us transformed people, not just nice people.
Practice God’s presence.
Brother Lawrence seventeenth-century monk book; The practice of the presence of God.
Brother Lawrence actually “practiced the presence of God” by continually practicing God’s presence while he was washing pots and pans in his monastery’s kitchen.1
I know that to truly experience the presence of God, I must barricade myself against thinking about business activities or all the things I plan to do that day. It takes energy to meet God, and it only occurs as a result of a dedicated will to make it happen.
Mark 15:37–38 NIV
37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. 38 The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
