Call to Worship:
Psalm 8 NKJV
To the Chief Musician. On the Instrument of Gath. A Psalm of David. 1 O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! 2 Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger. 3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, 4 What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? 5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. 6 You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, 7 All sheep and oxen— Even the beasts of the field, 8 The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!
Giving
Hebrews 13:16 NKJV
16 But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Today’s Text:

Philippians 3:1–16 NKJV
1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe. 2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation! 3 For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh, 4 though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so: 5 circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee; 6 concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. 7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. 12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.
Introduction:
of the stock of Israel,
circumcised the eighth day
of the tribe of Benjamin, (a Hebrew of the Hebrews;)
concerning the law, a Pharisee;
concerning zeal, persecuting the church;
concerning the righteousness, which is in the law, blameless

Christ Jesus of supreme value

Philippians 3:8 NKJV
8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ
to excel-”to surpass.”
Jesus is his Lord
the Apostle Paul was at the top of the economic, social, Spiritual, strata and the Apostle says that he counts all that as rubush.
Philippians 3:9 NKJV
9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;
the Apostle Paul says that his righteousness now is not in keeping the law, but now in faith in Christ.
Philippians 3:6 NKJV
6 concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
now we trust Christ and not our actions. (although I do believe when you lean into christ christ pours out of us.)

Grown, and still Growing.

Philippians 3:10–11 NKJV
10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
I know the power of His resurrection, Through the fellowship of his suffering.
Growth is sometimes (always for me) struggling. I need the fellowship of His suffering, i learn what is in me. as I learn what is in me.
1 Corinthians 15:50–58 NKJV
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Pressing on

Philippians 3:12–14 NKJV
12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
to press means to put some effort in.
we spent all this time in the word, in order to get the word out of my life i have to put it in.
once i put it in i need the effort to work it out.
Philippians 3:12 NKJV
12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.
Christ has laid a hold of you.
His Purposes are in you.
He has things for you to do.
the lady that announced that she was going to be a leader here, she made that announcement. Three weeks later she was gone. she expected to be a leader after six week total in the church.
1 Timothy 5:22 NKJV
22 Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people’s sins; keep yourself pure.

Forgetting those things which are behind.

Philippians 3:13 NKJV
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
we need to know that God forgives our sin.
Micah 7:19 NKJV
19 He will again have compassion on us, And will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins Into the depths of the sea.
Psalm 103:12 NKJV
12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
I am not saying that we don't need to make amends, I am saying that we don't walk under condemnation!
I need to forgive others
Matthew 6:14–15 NKJV
14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
there is a sell by date on our resentments.

your call is not parallel, it’s upward.

Philippians 3:14 NKJV
14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
