What's an important thing that you've changed your mind about? Four Ways to think about the "will of God"? Today we will discuss the "Specific" Will of God. The Specific will of God and Abram. Genesis 12:1-4 The LORD had said to Abram, "Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you. (2) "l will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. (3) I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and al/ peoples on earth will be blessed through you. " (4) So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. What was God's specific will for Abram? Why would we refer to this as His "Specific" Will? How many are affected by this engagement? The Specific Will of God and Moses Exodus 3:1-10 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. (2) There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. ... (7) The LORD said, "1 have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. (8) So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. (9) And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. (10) So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt. " What was the specific will of God for Moses? Why would God "come down to rescue"? How many were affected by this? Specific will of God and Jesus John 12:27-32 "Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. (28) Father, glorify your name!" Then a voice came from heaven, "1 have glorified it, and will glorify it again. " (29) The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him. (30) Jesus said, "This voice was for your benefit, not mine. (31) Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. (32) And l, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself. " John 18:37 "You are a king, then!" said Pilate. Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me. " What is the specific will of God for Jesus? _______________________________________________ Is everyone called to this purpose? _____________________________________________________ How many are affected by this? ________________________________________________________ Specific will of God and Us. God's specific will is used for very specific purposes. 1. To advance his general will 2. To validate or confirm his covenant 3. To right the course Some important things 1. His specific will will never conflict with his general will 2. His specific will is rarely for one individual's benefit 3. Most people will never be called to God's specific will
