Unspeakable gift
And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
There are many things in this passage that stand out
Bt I want to focus on this it said you will find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in the manger.
We think about christmas you know what most of us do we go get a gift and wrap that gift and put it under the tree till the appointed time than we give gifts to one another and rejoice.
Well God did not do that he on the appointed time wrapped the gift and laid it in a manger
Here is what he said about the gift
Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
That gift should not cause you to fear . It caused herod to fear
That gift was be good tidings of great joy
It was to all people God has a gift for you this morning
For God so loved the world that he gave.
Did you ever consider as you looked at the manger scene that was a gift for you
Did you ever consider as you looked at a baby that God one day gave his child for you?
Why would he do that ?
Why he gave the Gift
Why he gave the Gift
2Co_9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
It is unspeakable to think that he would give his only begotten son that was with him before the world began to us evil humans.
You mothers that wont leave your kids some moms are like that that is ok.
But no mother would leave their baby to have animals watching them God left his only begotten son to people to care for raise
Think of it it is truly a mystery
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
It was a gift of good will.
Can you imagine leaving your child with your enemies ?
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
Never forget that God is good everything he does is good and for good reason and the bad things that happen to us he will work them for out good to make us like him
Nothing should be needed as further proof of His good will than he gave us his son
How dare we question his motive
This has been a great truth that has been helping me everything he does is with good motives good intention good character not possible for him to do anything with a wrong motive
And he does hard things things that hurt us he does it with good will.
I should be like him
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
That was a gift of peace.
I was reading the book bury my heart at wounded knee and before the us would make a treaty with many tribes they had to give up certain members of the tribes for the crimes they committed
And many of them said we will never do it and they fought to the last man and all died rather than give up their loved ones even though they had done wrong in many cases
The devil said you can't have them they are mine and the only way you will get them is to give up the perfect one your only begotten son
And you know what the Lord did he gave his son to evil humans for an offering of peace.
Heb_9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
And the only way to have peace between God and man was the demands of the law had to be met
For the wages of sin is death the soul that sinneth it shall surely die
He told adam in the day you eat there of you will die.
He told abraham when he rejected Issac as the sacrifice that God would provide himself a lamb
And here was that lamb lying in the manger
Why was it important that He was God's only begotten son because if he was a son of adam
He would be a sinner and the only peoples sin he could die for was his own.
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Our dominion was lost by a man. The only way it can ever be returned to us is by a man, another man—and that other man is the Lord Jesus.
All of us today are represented by one of two men: either Adam or Jesus. “In Adam all die.” “In Christ shall all be made alive.” ()
there are really only two men who have ever lived, and the rest of us are part and parcel of those two men. Now Jesus Christ, the last Adam, came, born of a virgin, to undo what the first Adam did. Now apart from Him there is no hope of salvation.
And if he never became a man he could not have done it because he could not have taken the sin on him because that is opposed to his nature.
Like oil and water it does not mix
And he would have had no blood
God is a spirit Luk_24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
Act_20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
How did god get blood ? In Jesus
The great eternal I AM is Spirit. Well, the great eternal I AM cannot die. The great eternal I AM cannot bleed. But this salvation was lost by a man. This dominion was lost by a man. Therefore it must be redeemed by a man. For “without shedding of blood is no remission.” But not just any man can do. This man must be a perfect man. He must be sinless. And He also must be innocent.
Whose blood was in that baby? It wasn’t Mary’s blood. And by the way, when a little baby is being carried in its mother’s womb, that little baby has a separate life from that mother.
There’s a different blood in that baby. The mother may have one blood type; the baby has another blood type. Sometimes in a paternity suit in a law court a father may prove that he did not sire a baby by blood tests. How is that? Because the bloodline is not determined by the mother, but by the father.
Whose blood circulated in that little baby? It was the blood of God.
Now had He not been born of a virgin, He would have been a son of Adam. Mendel, who did his great work in genetics, said this concerning genetics—
Mendel’s law of genetics “Every individual is the sum total of the characteristics, recessive or dominant, in its two progenitors.”
“Every individual”“is the sum total of the characteristics, recessive or dominant, in its two progenitors”—that is, its two parents.
All that was in your father and mother is in you—all; not some, all. You are the sum total of the genetic characteristics of your father and mother.
His Father is truly God; His mother is truly human. Then who is He? He is God in human flesh. He is the God-man; not half-God and half-man; not all God and no man; not all man and no God; He is the only begotten Son of God. He is the only One qualified to die upon that cross for our salvation.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
Bible representing sins
Righteousness and peace have kissed each other
How He gave the Gift
How He gave the Gift
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
God was happy when he put that little baby in the manger
God was pleased
The pleasure of the Lord prospered
You see not only Is God good he is happy to be good
Not only does he give but he is happy to give
I can't wrap my head around that it pleased the Lord to bruise him.
It pleased God to pour out all his anger
All of his wrath for the sin of the whole earth on him
And take it out on Christ.
Song says it best
Maybe we can sing this here one day
In Christ alone! - who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe.
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live.
I think this gives us a hint into it
Verses talking about keep going don't quit and the illustration the example he uses is Jesus
And he gives us insight into why he did it
with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Do Not Grow Weary
For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
Joy
He gave the gift with pleasure and he gave it joyfully.
That joy was the peace that was able to result from that
The sin that was apid for and the promises were made good
Captivity could go captive and again God and man could walk together
We could put on the new man
We could receive his spirit
Communication was restored
The veil of the temple was rent in twain and once again like with adam our bodies became the temple of the Lord.
The Lord was pleased to do it
He was joyful to do it.
Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
Think about that gift laying in the manger
Think about how you give gifts
He did it in the same way.
What to do With the Gift
What to do With the Gift
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Unto us a child is born
Unto us a son is given
His name shall be called Wonderful
Well the first thing you must do is receive the gift.
And savor the gift
This gift the angel said was good tidings and peace
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
Does that gift bring you great joy
Can I tell you a secret the only people that had that joy was the ones who received it.
The wise men
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
The sheppards let us go at once
The angels seen of angels now the angels could not only communicate with God they could see him.
Simon
And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
Anna
And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
John the baptist the bae leaped in her womb for Joy
Is Jesus wonderful to you this Christmas
Do all the other things pale in comparison to Jesus ?
Some did not receive the Gift herod did not receive Him he tried to kill him
The jews did not and they had no joy.
Have you received the gift ?
Suppose you on christmas eve or christmas morning
Who does christmas eve who does the morning
You get this nice gift you put all this thought into.
Your child takes it says I do not want it and threw it on the floor and stomped on it said stop trying to interfere with my life. I do not need your charity ?
His name shall be called wonderful as Mary held up the babe she looked at Joseph and said he is wonderful and he really was
Joseph he is perfect he really was
Is he wonderful to you ? Is he really?
Is he someone that you just want to be around you have received and you long to be with
Have you received the gift?
He is the Counselor. He is the One that gives you wisdom.
How are you supposed to live? How are you supposed to learn? What are you supposed to do?
It’s all wrapped up in Jesus. In Colossians chapter 2 and verse 3, the Bible says, in Jesus “are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” ()
tell me then what six thousand years of human history have brought about with man’s wisdom, and this is where have we gotten
We have produced the most maniacal killers this world has ever scene what darwin influenced hitler he was looking to the stars on his last week in the bunker in Berlin he believed in evolution what he did made the things the atheist complain about God doing look harmless.
You take God out and get the holocost
Think about all the trouble you have ever gotten yourself into in life
It is because you are not using your gift you are not getting coucel from him
Because all the trouble has resulted from not following his council
Is he your counselor?
The Mighty God
Is he mighty to you?
Or is he an insignificant babe lying in the manger ?
Does he have the power to solve you problems
Or the wisdom to leave them as they are.
Is he were all your hope rests
Is he the engine to which all your dreams are attached ?
Is he mighty enough to oversee your life
Is he mighty enough for you to trust him
Is he mighty enough to take you to heaven
Is he mighty enough to save your soul
To pay for your sin
To save your marriage
To help you overcome?
Is he bigger than any and every problem you have
Is he bigger than the permitting office ?
Is he mighty to you
Is is your gift not big enough to solve anything ?
Take the gift recognize its might
I do not think she recognized on that first say
The power of all heaven and earth was in that babe
To heal the blind
To calm the storms
To command the devils
To raise the dead.
To command legions of angels.
The government shall be upon his shoulder
Is he mighty enough to direct your life
To let you know of his plans for you and you not your plans for him
Can you let him have his way with you and rule you
How mighty is your gift ?
The Everlasting Father
He said I and the Father are one
Jesus was god that is where the power came from
He came from a place on the other side of places before there was a place
Before there was time he is the great I am
Do you realize eternity rested in that manger
‘The reason God came from nowhere is because there wasn’t anywhere for Him to come from. And coming from nowhere He stood on nothing, for there was nowhere for Him to stand. And standing on nothing He reached out where there was nowhere to reach, and caught something when there was nothing to catch. Then He hung that something on nothing and told it to stay there, and nobody said a word, because there wasn’t anybody around to say anything. Then God said to Him-self, ‘That is good!’
That is the gift
He gave us eternity because he gave us himself
The Prince of Peace
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” () You say, “Didn’t the Bible say, ‘peace on earth’?” There’s no peace on earth—not yet.
There is no peace without Jesus
Peace was on earth but he left and when he comes back he will bring it back
Peace on earth was correct but the only people that knew peace knew Jesus.
There will be. There will be when Jesus comes again.
I heard of a man who died and his widow bought a beautiful tombstone with all of her money for him, a gravestone. She put these words: “Rest in peace.” Then she read the will and found out that he didn’t leave her anything. She went back and had these words added: “’Till I come.”
You will not have any peace until Jesus comes in your life.
And there will be no peace in Jerusalem until Jerusalem crowns her King
there can be personal peace,
For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river,
A river comes from a higher source.
It overflows. It just keeps on coming. I’ve got peace like a river.
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Let me just tell you what Christmas is all about. It is this: “Unto us a child is born … a son is given.”
God came to this earth to live, breath, work, laugh, cry, weep, and teach, then carry our sins to the cross and die for you.
Won't you receive the gift and trust Christ?
“Pastor, would Jesus save me?” Oh, He will. He will, if you’ll trust Him—if you’ll trust Him; if you’ll say Lord I trust you and what you did for me in the manger and on the cross I know you died for me and rose again
Thank you for paying for my sin forgive me for being such a terrible person a rotten selfish person I need you I canont make it on my own , and save me, Lord Jesus.” I promise you on the authority of the Word of God, if you will trust Him, if you will repent and trust Christ, He will save you.
What will you do with your gift?
