Text: Joshua 1:1-9

Prayer:

Being in charge, being the number 1 is not always what it is cracked up to be. Be careful!

Set the scene: Joshua nervous to take over.

God’s Promises to Joshua:

I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. (vs 3)

No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. (vs 5a)

As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. (vs 5b)

Then you will be prosperous and successful. (vs 8b)

I will be with you wherever you go. (vs. 9)

God’s Admonishments to Joshua:

Be strong and courageous. (vs 6)

Because you will lead people...

Be strong and very courageous. (vs 7)

Be strong and courageous. (vs 9)

Meditate on the Book of the Law day and night, and do what is written in it. (vs 8)

Be strong and courageous. (vs 9)

Be strong and courageous. (vs 9)

Do not be terrified. (vs 9)

Do not be discouraged. (vs 9)

How to do it:

Obey all the law, do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful (vs 7)

Meditate on the Book of the Law day and night, and do what is written in it. (vs 8)
