SIN INSPIRED BY THE LAW
SIN INSPIRED BY THE LAW
What do I want them to know?
The law empowers sin
The law makes you sin conscious
Sinful passions are aroused by the law
The law makes you feel guilty
You can live free from the law...
What Inspires You Is Key!
What inspires you to do what?
1. THE PURPOSE OF THE LAW
1. THE PURPOSE OF THE LAW
(purpose example)
1. TO DECLARE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD
1. TO DECLARE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD
The law is holy, righteous and good
So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.
2. TO CAUSE SIN TO INCREASE
2. TO CAUSE SIN TO INCREASE
The law was added so that sin would increase 2451 YEARS
The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,
Cause man to be self conscious
3. TO CAUSE MAN TO REALIZE HIS NEED FOR GOD
3. TO CAUSE MAN TO REALIZE HIS NEED FOR GOD
every mouth silenced and the whole world held accountable to God
Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no-one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.
every mouth silenced and the whole world held accountable to GodGal 3:24 The law was put in charge to lead us to Christ
The law was put in charge to lead us to Christ
So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith.
Self and sin consciousness
2. THE INSPIRATION OF THE LAW
2. THE INSPIRATION OF THE LAW
(inspiration example)
Sinful passions aroused by the law
For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death.
But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire
But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from law, sin is dead.
3. THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE LAW
3. THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE LAW
Through the law we become conscious of sin
Therefore no-one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.
Held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed
Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.
4. THE DURATION OF THE LAW
4. THE DURATION OF THE LAW
(How long will it last?)
Nothing will disappear from the law UNTIL
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
The law was added because of transgressions UNTIL the Seed to whom the promise referred had come.
What, then, was the purpose of the law? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was put into effect through angels by a mediator. A mediator, however, does not represent just one party; but God is one.
Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law. But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.
Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.
5. OUR FREEDOM FROM THE LAW
5. OUR FREEDOM FROM THE LAW
(Freedom from slavery) Free at last… Thank God almighty we are free at last!
1. RECEIVE YOUR DEATH TO THE LAW
1. RECEIVE YOUR DEATH TO THE LAW
You died to the law through the body of Chris
Do you not know, brothers—for I am speaking to men who know the law—that the law has authority over a man only as long as he lives? For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage. So then, if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress, even though she marries another man.
So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.
If we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him
Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why
Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules:
Through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God
For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God.
2. RENEW YOUR MIND TO:
2. RENEW YOUR MIND TO:
1. YOUR RIGHT STANDING WITH GOD
1. YOUR RIGHT STANDING WITH GOD
Since you died with Christ, you have also been raised with him
The righteous will live by faith
Clearly no-one is justified before God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.”
Your life is now hidden with Christ in God
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
3. YOUR INHERITANCE WITH CHRIST
3. YOUR INHERITANCE WITH CHRIST
No longer a slave but a son, … God has made you an heir
So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.
Heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ (If we share in his sufferings)
Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
