Ecclesiastes 9:11 ESV
Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.
Hebrew word for “time” is the word eth, meaning time or season. The Hebrew words for “chance happen” are pega qarah. Together with eth, they present a picture not of random occurrences, but “right happenings” that are dependent on the Lord’s orchestration.
Chance - pega in the Scriptures, is from the root word paga, which means to make intercession or pray.
Happen - qarah, is often used in other parts of the Bible to explain God-ordained happenings.
“chance happen” should more accurately be translated as “prayed opportunities” or “prayed happenings.”
first mention of eth in the Bible.
Genesis 8:11 ESV
And the dove came back to him in the evening, and behold, in her mouth was a freshly plucked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the waters had subsided from the earth.
The phrase “in the evening” is where you find the word eth (remember, it means “right timing”).
The first mention of right timing has to do with the dovethat’s a picture of the Holy Spirit.
It’s the Holy Spirit who can guide you to be at the right place at the right time.
God sent a message through the dove bearing a leaf that there would be no more such worldwide flooding and destruction (see ). It was a message of peace to men.
This tells us that the message the Holy Spirit brings is one of peace.
the Holy Spirit leads us on the wavelength of peace.
When there is no peace in your heart, it’s time for you to reevaluate your decision and listen to His leading.
The first time qarah is mentioned is in , when Abraham sent his servant to get a bride for his son, Isaac.
Genesis 24:12 ESV
And he said, “O Lord, God of my master Abraham, please grant me success today and show steadfast love to my master Abraham.
grant me success - qarah
The servant asked God to give him qarah—right happening.
pega qarah being “prayed happenings”?
No matter how intelligent we are, we can’t put ourselves at the right place and right time a hundred percent of the time. Only the Lord can do this for us.
Lead us to be at the right place at the right time and to be with the right people.”
Another time the word qarah appears is in the book of Ruth, where it says, “And she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz” (,
Ruth 2:1–3 ESV
Now Naomi had a relative of her husband’s, a worthy man of the clan of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz. And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I shall find favor.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.” So she set out and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers, and she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the clan of Elimelech.
happened - qarah
The Hebrew word for “to come to” and “to light on” here is qarah. And the Hebrew word for “happened” and “hap” here is miqreh, which comes from the word qarah.
Ruth 2:4–17 ESV
And behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem. And he said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you!” And they answered, “The Lord bless you.” Then Boaz said to his young man who was in charge of the reapers, “Whose young woman is this?” And the servant who was in charge of the reapers answered, “She is the young Moabite woman, who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab. She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves after the reapers.’ So she came, and she has continued from early morning until now, except for a short rest.” Then Boaz said to Ruth, “Now, listen, my daughter, do not go to glean in another field or leave this one, but keep close to my young women. Let your eyes be on the field that they are reaping, and go after them. Have I not charged the young men not to touch you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink what the young men have drawn.” Then she fell on her face, bowing to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?” But Boaz answered her, “All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told to me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before. The Lord repay you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!” Then she said, “I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not one of your servants.” And at mealtime Boaz said to her, “Come here and eat some bread and dip your morsel in the wine.” So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed to her roasted grain. And she ate until she was satisfied, and she had some left over. When she rose to glean, Boaz instructed his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her. And also pull out some from the bundles for her and leave it for her to glean, and do not rebuke her.” So she gleaned in the field until evening. Then she beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.
Ruth 2:4-17
Ruth 2:16 NLT
And pull out some heads of barley from the bundles and drop them on purpose for her. Let her pick them up, and don’t give her a hard time!”
Ruth 2:16
Aleph and Tav are the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet.
most Jewish people do not know what the two letters combined really stand for.
Revelation 1:8 ESV
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Revelation 1:11 ESV
saying, “Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”
So the letters AlephTav point to our Lord Jesus, who has the first and final word on your situation.
Your diseases don’t have the last word, He does. Your problems don’t have the final say, He does.
His signature is inscribed in (as well as in other verses in the Bible).
This means that our Lord Jesus is the One who brings the eth (Time) and qarah (Divine happenings) together in your life!
When your heart is full of and dependent on our Lord Jesus, you’ll end up at the right place at the right time supernaturally!
