3 a: the act or power of seeing: sight b: the special sense by which the qualities of an object (as color, luminosity, shape, and size) constituting its appearance are perceived through a process in which light rays entering the eye are transformed by the retina into electrical signals that are transmitted to the brain via the optic nerve
A trance-like event where a person sees or understands a communication from a supernatural being.
Vision may also be described as a revelation. Witnessing something supernatural that is not visible to the naked eye.
The root of the word vision means; To see
In the Bible, when the word vision is used, it indicates seeing and hearing from God with your spiritual eyes and ears.
Proverbs 29:18 NASB95
18 Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, But happy is he who keeps the law.
The Hebrew word for vision here actually refers to a revelation from God’s heart.

When mens hearts grow cold, God sends a famine of His Word.

Amos 8:11 NASB95
11 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “When I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, But rather for hearing the words of the Lord.
Amos 8:12 NASB95
12 “People will stagger from sea to sea And from the north even to the east; They will go to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, But they will not find it.

When there is a famine of God’s Word, man starts to make up his own word.

Jeremiah 23:16 NASB95
16 Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you. They are leading you into futility; They speak a vision of their own imagination, Not from the mouth of the Lord.

God speaks directly to us personally through vision.

Genesis 15:1 NASB95
1 After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great.”

God may remove natural sight to open spiritual eyes.

Acts 9:8–12 NASB95
8 Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could see nothing; and leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus. 9 And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank. 10 Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and the Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.” 11 And the Lord said to him, “Get up and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying, 12 and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him, so that he might regain his sight.”

God can change your mind through spiritual vision.

Acts 11:4–5 NASB95
4 But Peter began speaking and proceeded to explain to them in orderly sequence, saying, 5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, an object coming down like a great sheet lowered by four corners from the sky; and it came right down to me,

Especially in a dry time, we need to station ourselves and watch for the word of The LORD.

God will give vision to those who are waiting for it to help direct those who are not.

The Word of The LORD is necessary for us to have clear direction.

Habakkuk 2:1–3 NASB95
1 I will stand on my guard post And station myself on the rampart; And I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me, And how I may reply when I am reproved. 2 Then the Lord answered me and said, “Record the vision And inscribe it on tablets, That the one who reads it may run. 3 “For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay.

How does seeing affect us and our choices?

Luke 10:30–33 NASB95
30 Jesus replied and said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, and they stripped him and beat him, and went away leaving him half dead. 31 “And by chance a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 “Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 “But a Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion,

Seeing helps us learn.

Proverbs 24:32 NASB95
32 When I saw, I reflected upon it; I looked, and received instruction.

Seeing helps us avoid trouble.

Proverbs 22:3 NASB95
3 The prudent sees the evil and hides himself, But the naive go on, and are punished for it.

Seeing the path makes our feet sure.

John 11:9 NASB95
9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

What we see can cause us to feel compassion.

Matthew 9:36 NASB95
36 Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd.

What we see can cause fear.

Matthew 14:30 NASB95
30 But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!”

What we see can build our faith.

Matthew 9:21–22 NASB95
21 for she was saying to herself, “If I only touch His garment, I will get well.” 22 But Jesus turning and seeing her said, “Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well.” At once the woman was made well.

Bottom line

You will act on what you see.

Without spiritual vision you cannot act correctly.

Do you have clear spiritual vision?

What will you do with what you see?
