Formula to relationship? When and where did you get to know me? If i sat you and the Father down and said tell me the story of how you two met.
Disciples abide
Discipleship without discipline is babysitting
Disciple maker vs Christian?
Matthew 7:1–3 ESV
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
They don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. You're trying to win an argument with an unbeliever thinking that if you can just prove evolution is false they'll just give up atheism and get saved when what you really need is a word of Knowledge about why they're mad at God and have decided not to believe in Him.
Luke 4:36 ESV
And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!”

Power to witness.
Acts 1:8 ESV
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

1 Corinthians 2:4–5 ESV
and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

1 Thessalonians 1:5 ESV
because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.

Matthew 28:19 ESV
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Wrong evangelism- Its not just saying magic words, do you believe in your heart, confess is not used
Everything worthwhile is uphill. You can't have Uphill hopes and dreams and downhill habits. Every day is what messes people up.
Childish always asks how long will it take? -whats the minimum Maturity asks how far can I go?- whats the maximum I have run my race I have finished my course Better for me if I go, better for you I will stay.
Christian adjective relating to or professing Christianity or its teachings. noun a person who has received Christian baptism or is a believer in Christianity.
Disciple
noun a personal follower of Jesus during his life, especially one of the twelve Apostles. Similar: apostle follower a follower or student of a teacher, leader, or philosopher.
So as a pupil or learner of Christ where would you put yourself? Everyone close your eyes- say I’m Pastor Karen, say I’m Pastor Karen. Jesus said My Sheep hear My Voice and a stranger’s voice they shall not follow. Most of the “Church” can’t even confidently say they know when God speaks to you. I know PASTORS who have said God speaks to them through other peoples compliments…. and everyone agrees that shouldn’t be but Jesus said My SHEEP hear My Voice, not My Pastors hear My Voice. Because those same people will be the first to say I don’t read my Bible or pray like I should. Wild at Heart- Christian formula instead of relationship. Reading my Bible and praying is something I should do because it is part of my Christian formula, not because that is how I know my Creator, King and Father. Or how I am mentored by the Holy Spirit of God who lives inside me.
Seed reproduces after its own kind
Genesis 1:11–12 ESV
And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

Luke 6:40 ESV
A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.

Separating salvation from discipleship has resulted in the crisis of the church. Getting someone to say a prayer and then abandoning them should be the exception and not the norm. It would be like meeting a long-lost brother or sister for the first time and never contacting them again. Having a baby, throwing it in the corner then saying lets go have another one! Because its fun to make babies, but raising them isn't as much fun...
Not converts but disciples
School education versus Church education, its no wonder it takes you 30 years to get anywhere
Simply added Jesus to your life not a new creation, not reborn or born again
Separating salvation into parts. Accepting 'salvation' but not a learner, pupil, imitator or follower. We were disciples long before the term Christian came around though it literally means Christ-like or Little Christ. Disciple 260. 4
The purpose of Apostles is to plant a church where they don't exist
Running to a professional Christian
The purpose of pastors. Pastor has come to meet the definition of disciple
Through your traditions
Matthew 15:6 ESV
he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God.

Matthew 10:24–25 ESV
“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.

Matthew 10:34–38 ESV
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
Matt 10:3434 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person's enemies will be those of his own household. 37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Fruit that remains
Don’t confuse DO with KNEW. Mary. I never knew you
Luke 10:39–42 ESV
And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

Matthew 7:21–23 ESV
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

Fishers of men
Mark 1:16–18 ESV
Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him.

Disciples are the ones who don't leave even when they don't understand something
John 6:53 ESV
So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

John 6:60–61 ESV
When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this?

John 6:66–69 ESV
After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”

John 13:13–17 ESV
You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

Would you say our church is characterized by disciple making?
Programs
Or the mission of our lives
Does it define us
A disciple is a disciple maker
I do good things for the same reason I do bad things, it makes me feel good. So I have to make sure that I'm not just doing what I feel like, and not just doing what I think I have to. But that I am loving people
1 Corinthians 13:1–3 ESV
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Ephesians 4:1–3 ESV
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Ephesians 4:4–7 ESV
There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

Ephesians 4:8–10 ESV
Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.” (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)

Ephesians 4:11–14 ESV
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
Ephesians 4:15–16 ESV
Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
