What is the difference between guilt and shame?
What is the difference between guilt and shame?
Answer: Guilt is Sin committed, Shame is sin suffered. Generally there is some overlap.
Question: What Does Guilt and Shame Do to us? How does it affect our behaviour? Answers: run, hide, avoide, deny,
Answers: run, hide, avoide, deny,
Read what Adam did in - Thats shame for you he ran and hid and sought shelter from God. “Thats the way shame works, it criples and shrivels the soul. Burdening the heart with an intense and overpowering sense of disgreace and honour. Shame strips body and soul of all their glory, leaving people naked and afraid before God.
Question: What do we do to cope with shame? We go to the Bottle. Do you see the Cycle / The Circle - Draw the Circle of Death. Heat - Drink - Shame - Brings more heat - Drink - shame - heat.
Sin always leads to Death - Death to Marriage, Death to relationships, Death to health..........
Question: How are we going to break the cycle?
Guilt has to do with Behaviour (Eve took the Apple believing she could find something in it that God could not give her), Shame has to do with Identitity.Guilt is tied to the sinful things I have done whereas shame is the continous experience of utter remorse over who I am. A person who experiences shame has an abiding sense of failure and self disgust.

The prodigal Son - Luke 15
1) So the first step is to come to our senses.
2) Go to the Father. Recieve his forgivness.
The way home Is a lifellong journey but the Father comes out to meet you Daily repentance is needed to break the cycle, new habits formed.
Harold SenkBiel (Lutheran Pastor) - “The habits of Sin are deeply engrained in a wounded sinners heart, mind and body. And they die slowly - and often painfully due to thew inevitable objections of the Old Adamwho always protests that he is too young to die but keeps promising to amend his ways. Daily Sin must be done to death by contrition and repentance. The old Adam simply cannot be reformed; daily he must be drownd and die so that the new man may emerge and arise, created a new in true innocence and blessedness.”
Most of us just choose to bare and live with our own shame - But we do not have to.
When Saten Tempts me to Dispair upward I look and See him There, Who made and end of all my sin.
