For the drunkard and the glutton will become poor,

and grogginess will clothe them in rags.

17 Kindness to the poor is a loan to the LORD,

and he will give a reward to the lender.,b

On the contrary, when you host a banquet, invite those who are poor, maimed, lame, or blind.

Kindness to the poor is a loan to the LORD,

and he will give a reward to the lender

You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.

The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news,

The one who mocks the poor insults his Maker,

and one who rejoices over calamity

will not go unpunished.

For you say, ‘I’m rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing,’ and you don’t realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.

Listen, LORD, and answer me,

for I am poor and needy.

21 Looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him, “You lack one thing: Go, sell all you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me

Rich and poor have this in common:

the LORD makes them all

Listen to this message, you cows of Bashan

who are on the hill of Samaria,

women who oppress the poor

and crush the needy,

who say to their husbands,

“Bring us something to drink.

For there will never cease to be poor people in the land; that is why I am commanding you, ‘Open your hand willingly to your poor and needy brother in your land.’

My brothers and sisters, do not show favoritism as you hold on to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ

You must not deny justice to a poor person among you in his lawsuit

The LORD brings poverty and gives wealth;

he humbles and he exalts.

8 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the trash heap.

He seats them with noblemen

and gives them a throne of honor.

For the foundations of the earth are the LORD’s;

he has set the world on them.

4 Idle hands make one poor,

but diligent hands bring riches

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ: Though he was rich, for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich.

They asked only that we would remember the poor, which I had made every effort to do.

They push the needy off the road;

the poor of the land are forced into hiding.

5 Like wild donkeys in the wilderness,

the poor go out to their task of foraging for food;

the desert provides nourishment for their children.

Better a poor person who lives with integrity

than someone who has deceitful lips and is a fool.

2 Even zeal is not good without knowledge,

and the one who acts hastily sins.

3 A person’s own foolishness leads him astray,

yet his heart rages against the LORD.

4 Wealth attracts many friends,

but a poor person is separated from his friend.

There will be no poor among you, however, because the LORD is certain to bless you in the land the LORD your God is giving you to possess as an inheritance—5 if only you obey the LORD your God and are careful to follow every one of these commands I am giving you today.

The righteous person knows the rights of the poor,

but the wicked one does not understand these concerns.

A poor person is hated even by his neighbor,

but there are many who love the rich.

21 The one who despises his neighbor sins,

but whoever shows kindness to the poor will be happy

Now a poor wise man was found in the city, and he delivered the city by his wisdom. Yet no one remembered that poor man. 16 And I said, “Wisdom is better than strength, but the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are not heeded.”

All my bones will say,

“LORD, who is like you,

rescuing the poor from one too strong for him,

the poor or the needy from one who robs him?”
