13 And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 15 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” 16 And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

Three important things are revealed in this passage.

a. We are either bringing people to Christ or turning them away.

b. Jesus wants His people to have free access to Him.

c. Childlike faith is the key to the kingdom of God.

The Decision of the Disciples,

1. God’s people should bring their children to Jesus for blessings and guidance.

2. Well-meaning gatekeepers can stand in the way and deter another’s growth.

The Importance of Innocence,

1. Jesus values children and the innocent as rightful heirs of the kingdom of God.

2. Innocent faith and obedience should be the goal for every believer.

The Blessings of Jesus,

1. Those without childlike faith will not enter the kingdom of God.

2. Jesus encourages and strengthens those who desire His blessings.

3. Jesus comforts us as His children.

Conclusion

1. Bring those around you to Christ.

2. Run to Christ with the innocence of a child.

3. Jesus is ready and waiting for us to trust in Him.
