Information
Information
Hubert (JR) Leathers, was born on November 12, 1952 in Peoria, the son of Hubert and Marie Leathers. JR is survived by his wife Sharon of thirty-six years; his children, Curtis and Emily, Marie and Ryne, and Brandon. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Tom and Katelyn, and Gavin and Grayson. Also, his four brothers, Carroll and his wife Becky, Jim, Gerald and his wife Margaret, and Phil; as well as his sister, Ruth and her husband Mike. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dave.
JR enjoyed traveling the country while owning and operating his own semi-truck. This led to a career as an owner operator of a dump truck before his retirement in 2013. Hubert loved to travel, he enjoyed the outdoors, he loved Harley’s, Corvettes, and, of course, Bob Seger. He was a simple man who loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Remmert Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday, January 13, 2020 from 5-7:00 pm also at the funeral home. Pastor Dan Johnston will officiate.
If you are willing, would you please bow your heads in prayer
Eulogy

Written by Marie
Dad - Thanks to you and your truck driving skills, I’m pretty sure I was one of the only kids who had been through every state except 5 by the time I started kindergarten. You taught me how to read a map (and correctly fold it back up) and allowed me to direct you home from Wisconsin on our trips back from the “station”. You played catch with me and hit me fly balls all while saying “the ball can’t hurt you if you use your glove”. This is something I know I’ve said to Gavin a thousand times. You pitched to me until you just couldn’t pitch fast enough or move quickly enough to get out of the way of the shin and knee shots I hit back at you. You helped me shovel snow off the blacktop at the park so I could practice for the Knights of Columbus free throw contests (and win). You taught me rock music is best played at a loud volume with the windows down. You taught me 4-wheelers and BB guns weren’t just for boys. When I found a bottle of whiskey under the sink at age 10 and asked about it, you told me (as you gave me a teaspoon full) “if you don’t like it now, you won’t like it later.” That statement could not have been more true, I still can’t stand it. You showed me that learning stick shift was just mastering 1st and reverse and didn’t get mad at all the peel outs I made in the drive way while practicing. You drilled into my head, an oil change is every 3,000 miles and to always have at least a screw driver in the glove box.
Most importantly however is that I know you loved me, are proud of me and will always be with me. I’ll make sure to pass on your love of combos and beef jerky to the boys. May you now rest easy and be free.
Message
Message
Death causes us to think about 2 things
One is life
The other is death
We need hope
Worst thing to lose hope
Worst thing to lose hope
Mourning and grief are normal
Ecclesiastes says there is a season for all
Including grief
But also laughter and joy
Though sorrow lasts through the night
Rejoicing comes in the morning

4 “O Lord, make me know my end
and what is the measure of my days;
let me know how fleeting I am!
5 Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths,
and my lifetime is as nothing before you.
Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath! Selah
6 Surely a man goes about as a shadow!
Surely for nothing they are in turmoil;
man heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather!
7 “And now, O Lord, for what do I wait?
My hope is in you.

1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
10
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
