70’s Iraqi Gov arrested a group of American Students on trumped up espionage charges. In order to elicit admissions, they tortured the students. They were told if they confessed that they, they would be set free. IOW, Compromise the truth… admit to a lie.
One by one, as the pressures and tortured took it’s toll, the prisoners confessed to crimes they did not commit. The torture continues and got worse as time went on until all but one had confessed. The Iraqis tortured him to almost death… He almost broke but finally refused. They took him out and put a gun to his head. He grimaced as they put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened.
Finally, they announced they were finished and released him. He discovered after his release that every student who had confessed to being a spy, was taken out and hanged publically. He was the only survivor.
He learned a valuable lesson about facing difficulty and difficult times. Compromise is far more dangerous than courage.
It’s always right to do what is right.
It’s never wrong to do the right thing.
It’s never right to do wrong.
