I. The first thing the text is tailored to show us is that God has made provision for us to trust Him...
He tell the disciples in verse one "let not your heart be troubled, you believe in God believe also in me."
Its here my brothers and sisters that Christ wants us to know that even in times like these, even when we face difficulty that we are to trust him.
It's significant because there is no doubt that the disciples were questioning what are we going to do when you leave, how will we manage?
But here we observe the awesomeness of Christ because he says let not your heart be trouble, I know it hurts quite naturally, and there may be a void but I echo the sentiments of David who once said I have been young and now I'm old but I never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread.
Yes to the family, when the pies are no longer coming, when the soda stop, and phone is quiet the good news is we have company in our hearts. David said yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death ill fear no evil for thou are with me.
And I ought to have a witness here today that can help encourage the family that regardless of how hard or tough it might get we have company that stick closer than a brother.
II. Secondly the text is tailored to teach us preparations have already been made. . .
In verse 2 Jesus says in my father's house are many mansions, if it were not so I would have told you, I go to prepare a place for you.
When we think of a mansion we think of a huge house, but in the text the Greek translation for mansion is rooms, it those times whenever the son of the father got married they would add a room onto the house because they a returning home.
And to the family God told me to tell you that God added a room on to this house because his daughter has made it back home.
And I came to encourage someone today whose heart may be heavy that the good news is God is making preparations to add on a room for you. Is there anybody in this church that knows God is is making preparations on your behalf.
He tells them if I go prepare a place for you I'll come again and receive you unto myself that where I am you'll be also.
In other words he won't come get us until our room is ready and the text gave me a shout because the text says in my father's house in other words when we get there we'll be home.
III. I have to leave you now but the last thing the text is tailored to teach us is Jesus expects us to be his house guest. . .
The last clause of verse 3 says that where I am, there ye may be also.
**** In other words my brothers and sisters Jesus is making room for his house guest.
**** Its a good thing to know that after crying down here, after being sick down here, after being hurt down here, the we have a building not made by man.
