Key Verses:
Key Idea: The ultimate and only important blessing is that of belonging to God.

Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s promises to bless the families of the earth
The offspring who fulfills the promise of God
It is unsurprising, therefore, that the New Testament (“covenant”) declares that all God’s covenant promises are realized in and through Jesus (cf. , ; ), the long-awaited Davidic Messiah (; ; ; ; ; ; ). As the ultimate offspring of Abraham (; ) and royal offspring of David (; , ; ; ; ; ; ), Jesus also fulfills the role of Isaiah’s servant (; ; )—not only in redeeming Israel (; ; , ) but also by mediating God’s blessing to an international community of faith (; ; ; ; ; ; , ).

According to the NT Gospels and letters, the new covenant was ratified through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross (cf. ; ; ; ). In the inaugural Lord’s Supper, Jesus alludes to both the forgiveness linked by Jeremiah to the new covenant (; cf. ) and the blood associated with the establishment of the old (i.e., Mosaic) covenant (; cf. ). Accordingly, the NT emphasizes the forgiveness of sins, something only fully attainable under the new covenant (; cf. ), as the primary benefit of Jesus’ death (e.g., ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; , ; ; ; ; ).
