Cash Money
#3 —> Save more, Spend less/ Live Economically
5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
6 So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,
20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light,
23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Matt 6:
what % of the country is in debt? Over 76% have debt of some kind up from 2017
the avg. debt is $38,000 up from 2017
So with carrying this kind of debt it is understandable why the #3 resolution is save more, spend less or live more economically.
Why?
Freedom
24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
As Christians we know what freedom is like in God. In serving God we find our real freedom.
When we are in debt we lose a part of that freedom.
7 The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.
It was just as true before Christ as it is today.
Part of serving God is being generous with our time, talents, and money.
when we are in debt we work to pay off our debt and we are not able to be as generous as maybe we want to be.
Simplicity
5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
6 So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
We are tired of the stuff because we know it doesn’t last.
When we enter into a real relationship with Christ we get a taste of what eternity is like.
we stop worrying (even if its only briefly)
we rely on God for our needs and not ourselves
we realize the opinions of others really aren’t that important.
Next Steps?
Get back to the Freedom and Simplicity God wants for you.
Learn to be content
a sandwich at home instead of Sonic
a cup of Folgers instead of Starbucks
1 less gift at Christmas and some more quality time with the ones you love
Find the little things to cut back on
Stop cutting back on your time with God
The world is relentless
Commercials, advertisment
Just like our level of physical fitness our financial fitness needs to be reflected in God’s mirror not the world’s
6 So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
