Having 2020 Vision: Two Vital Principles
Matthew 6:22-24
22 “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light.
23 But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!
24 “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.
INTRODUCTION:
One of the greatest hinderances to a child of God successfully living out the mission of Christ is faulty spiritual vision.
There are two vital principles that every disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ must remember, if our spiritual vision is to allow us to keep life in its proper perspective— and thereby pursue the path and mission Christ has entrusted us with.
I- ALL OF LIFE MUST BE VIEWED THROUGH CLEAR SPIRITUAL LENSES. (Matthew 6:22-23)

22 “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light.

1- Personally
(Proverbs 29:18)
18 When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.
a- Leads to unwise decision-making.
(2 Corinthians 5:7)
7 For we live by believing and not by seeing.
(Romans 14:23)
23 But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.
2- To others are under our influence.
a. Jesus warned about those who are spiritually blind leading others who are in the same condition.
(Matthew 15:14)
14 so ignore them. They are blind guides leading the blind, and if one blind person guides another, they will both fall into a ditch.”

22 “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light.
1- Clear spiritual vision is provided through God’s Word and His Spirit.
(Psalm 119:105)
105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
(John 16:13-15)
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.
14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.
15 All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’
2- Clear spiritual vision enables wise decision-making.
a. It takes away fear.
(Psalm 23:1-4)
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
(Psalm 27:1)
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?
b. It makes God’s directions plain.
(Proverbs 3:5-6)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Jesus said that the wise person will follow His ways.
(Matthew 7:24)
24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.
II- ALL OF LIFE MUST BE LIVED WITH A SINGLE GOAL IN VIEW. (Matthew 6:24)

24 “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.
A- It is impossible to focus on two objects or goals at the same time.
A- It is impossible to focus on two objects or goals at the same time.
1- Attempting to multi-focus will result in failing to achieve the goal Christ has set before us.
2- The goal must be the only focus.
(Philippians 3:13-14)
13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,
14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
B- Jesus tells us that we must commit to Him as the focus of our life.
B- Jesus tells us that we must commit to Him as the focus of our life.
1- We will either be for Christ or against Him.
(Matthew 12:30)
30 “Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me.
2- Your focus must be your love for the Lord and pursuit of your walk with Him.
(Matthew 22:37)
37 Jesus replied, “ ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’
