Psalms Were A Source of Communion To David

Read Psalm 6:1-5, “ O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath. 2  Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am languishing; heal me, O LORD, for my bones are troubled. 3 My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O LORD—how long? 4  Turn, O LORD, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love. For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who will give you praise?
Psalms are a testimony of the struggles of David. He went to the Lord with his problems. This is very likely evidence of his heart. Though having outer and inner difficulties, he went to God. When his problems was his own sin and heart - he went to God. When his problems were outer - he went to God.
The Psalms communicate to believers, in real-time and real-situational experiences, and they are not imagined, and placed on paper, as to an idea. They are from real experiences.
One commentary by Derek Kidner, explains, that this Psalm here, shows an unease in the conscience of David. He was sensing possible displeasure from God, and a possible sickness which was afflicting him.
I think it is clear, that it is a time when David was struggling with the choices that he made, and sins he committed. He was battling against the tide of inner sin and sin living in him. His bones were troubled, he feels like he is languishing, and weak. And he feels that God may become condemnatory toward his state, and he is troubled in his soul, to the depths of his being, and then asks God to remember and present deliverance to his state, on the basis, of one thing. His steadfast love.
God had good promises for David. And in a time of struggle - regardless of when this Psalm was written in his life - at this point of struggle, David sought to bring to remembrance that even though the predicament he is in, that he would seek the covenant love of God toward David that would be able to lift him up so that he would not sink into death, and lose the hope of ability to have a life that gives glory to God, and David remarks that God would consider deliverance to David, so that he may be able to praise God.

Battle Until Light Breaks

Read Psalm 6:6-9, “6 I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping. 7 My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows weak because of all my foes. 8 Depart from me, all you workers of evil, for the LORD has heard the sound of my weeping. 9 The LORD has heard my plea. The LORD accepts my prayer.”
The commentator, Derek Kidner pointed out that David here actually exhausted himself of prayer. Eyes wasted away, when he looks toward his enemies. He becomes weakened. He moans, and instead of regular prayer, there is moaning and struggle. Depending on when this Psalm was written in David’s life and experience, it was one, where he turned to God.
In these verses, there is something, that true believers understand to be the reward of seeking God. The ability to know that God has given the basis of extending fellowship. David has a sense that God had heard his prayer. That God has accepted his prayers and his plea and responded, that such answers to David would give him glory. And this is what restores his eyes, and his strength. That God would send away and banish, what weakened him. The enemies of his, he has restored strength to demand them to depart from their affect on him. He shuts the door on them and is no longer below the bar of despondency, and has the strength to shut the enemy out.

God Works To Vindicate

Read Psalm 6:10, “10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled; they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment. “
David here strengthens himself, by telling himself divine truths about his state, in which will result ultimately in the making publicly known his vindication as standing as he should be before the Lord. God will supernaturally/naturally work things out, so as to send his enemies situations in their lives that cause them to turn away from their harm toward David. They will feel shame for what they did to David and what they tried to do to him, meaning, that God sees things different, even in the very middle and time of hardships, when all is grey to the surrounding eyes. If you mistreat someone, when you do not have the full knowledge, you may pay for it later, as God did not see David, as his enemies did in his times of troubles and trials. So his enemies will be at a particular time, troubled greatly. And possibly, something that is unremedied. But God would deliver David.

Conclusion

Have you ever sought God, to find him like David? David gives us an example, that we should never give up in our prayer and actions of faith, until we hear God’s pleasure of accepting our prayers. We should form our walk to be conformed to the Spirit and the ways of God, just like David does here. May God intervene in your life today, even if it is for the first time, that you would believe his message! God bless!
