Behold the Lamb!
约翰所作的见证记在下面：犹太人从耶路撒冷差祭司和利未人到约翰那里，问他说：「你是谁？」
他就明说，并不隐瞒，明说：「我不是基督。」
他们又问他说：「这样，你是谁呢？是以利亚吗？」他说：「我不是。」「是那先知吗？」他回答说：「不是。」
于是他们说：「你到底是谁，叫我们好回复差我们来的人。你自己说，你是谁？」
他说：「我就是那在旷野有人声喊着说：『修直主的道路』，正如先知以赛亚所说的。」
那些人是法利赛人差来的；
他们就问他说：「你既不是基督，不是以利亚，也不是那先知，为什么施洗呢？」
约翰回答说：「我是用水施洗，但有一位站在你们中间，是你们不认识的，
就是那在我以后来的，我给他解鞋带也不配。」
这是在约旦河外伯大尼，约翰施洗的地方作的见证。
次日，约翰看见耶稣来到他那里，就说：「看哪， 神的羔羊，除去世人罪孽的！
这就是我曾说：『有一位在我以后来、反成了在我以前的，因他本来在我以前。』
我先前不认识他，如今我来用水施洗，为要叫他显明给以色列人。」
约翰又作见证说：「我曾看见圣灵，仿佛鸽子从天降下，住在他的身上。
我先前不认识他，只是那差我来用水施洗的、对我说：『你看见圣灵降下来，住在谁的身上，谁就是用圣灵施洗的。』
我看见了，就证明这是 神的儿子。」
Introduction: John the Baptist
Now that we have finished the introduction, we can start the story in the book of John
The story starts with a main character found in all four Gospels: John the Baptist
I’ve taught a little about him but in order to understand the story, I want to take some time to tell you more about him
Here is the background of John the Baptist: (, , ) The Old Testament ends with the prophet Malachi saying this:
「看哪，耶和华大而可畏之日未到以前，我必差遣先知以利亚到你们那里去。
他必使父亲的心转向儿女，儿女的心转向父亲，免得我来咒诅遍地。」
It has now been 400 years since that was written down
A man comes on the scene and it is crazy sight
He wore camels hair and a leather belt
He lived in the desert and ate locusts and honey
His ministry was telling people that they had to repent, turn from their sins
He warned the Jews that just because they were Jews, (children of Abraham) didn’t mean they were all right
tHe told tax collectors to only collect what they were supposed to collectHe told the soldiers to be content with their salary and stop threatening people to get money from themJohn pretty much had a ministry of all they were doing wrong and it is what got him into troubleThe ruler of that area at the time was a man named Herod. Herod was not a great guy, he came from a long line of corrupt leadersHerod liked his brother’s wife so he divorced His wife, and married her John condemned him for doing soJohn, though, had a large following so Herod didn’t want to make his followers upset so he arrested him but did not kill him; but Herod’s wife wanted John dead.However, on Herod’s birthday, he was having a partyHis step-daughter came in and did a dance and Herod liked itHe asked her what she would want from him and offered up to half of his kingdom... She then went to her mother to ask what she should ask for; her response was to ask for the head of John the Baptist on a plateThus the life of John the Baptist was over The four Gospels were written all within a short time span, but John’s book was the lastComing up to the beginning here, it helps to understand all of that

We are not the focus of being a witness
We call this church witness because of what we are to do
Witnesses to do not draw people to themselves but point to the person or facts that they are witness to
We are not here to build our own organizationWe are not here to get people to join a club
We are not here to become popular
We exist that we may draw the focus from ourselves and onto Christ
We often want to make a name for ourselves but that is not what we are here for
We should do as one preacher long ago said, “Preach the Gospel, die and be forgotten”What would be the best end? That the name of Christ would be known around the world and our names would never be known.
We are not the light We are not the solution to the world’s problems – Christ is!
We are not the wisest people in the world – Christ is!
We do not possess all knowledge – Christ does!
If you come to us thinking we can help you, we can’t but Christ can!
We are not the answer
We offer nothing but Christ, who has everything
We proclaim belief in Jesus
Our message: Believe in Jesus
No other message in the world is worth proclaiming
No other name is given among men whereby they can be saved
Only belief in Christ is the power of God in Salvation
Only belief in Christ can make a person a child of God
The greatest need in the world is that people would believe in Jesus
The greatest job then in the world is to proclaim Christ

Crowds were going out and seeing John the Baptist
This was in the day with no internet, no phones
You couldn’t record a video, post it online and ask people what they thought
You could hear it from other people, or go see it for yourself
Remember, it had been 400 years and John by his presence, dress and preaching reminded the Jewish religious leaders of Elijah
So then they come out to ask this guy who he wasIt had been around 400 years since anyone had been claiming to speak for God
They come out to ask who he is
They were waiting on the Messiah/ the Christ Who are you? I am not the ChristAre you Elijah? (Many thought Elijah Himself would come)
Are you the Prophet? No
I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. –
我必在他们弟兄中间给他们兴起一位先知，像你。我要将当说的话传给他；他要将我一切所吩咐的都传给他们。
This verse was talking about the Messiah
Who are you then and why are you baptizing?
Long ago, the nation of Israel had disobeyed God
They did not worship Him as the one and only God
Because of that God scattered most of Israel but God promised a Messiah to free themIn ,
God tells them that He would sprinkle water on them and Israel would be restored and clean
Baptism was a sign that one had repented of their sin
A guy baptizing in the wilderness meant something new and strange was going on I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness
John had a priest as a Father so he could say he was a priest
He could say that he was a prophet sent from GodI am a voice, he is quoting
He was there to get the people ready for Jesus
He is here and He is ranked high above me
Many prophets announce when someone is coming in the future
John was announcing that he was there
John’s Witness
This is Him!
In answering questions, he directed them all to say the Christ was coming
It was then the next day that Christ came and John pointed everyone to Him
He says, “That’s Him, that’s who I am talking about!”
Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world
We will get to that in a momentI have seen and testify that this is the Son of God
Behold the Lamb! Israel was looking for a king
They wanted someone to ride in, save the day and rescue them from the oppression of the Roman government
That is what they were expecting
They weren’t expecting a lamb, they didn’t know that a lamb is what they needed
Throughout the Bible, Jesus is pictured as a lamb
The Lamb… In Exodus, the Israelites were under cruel slavery to the Egyptians
God heard the cry of Israel, and had a plan to set them free
God chose a man named Moses to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt
Moses told the king of Egypt to let Israel go but he would not
God then sent plagues upon Egypt
The king of Egypt still would not let Israel go even after 9 bad plagues
Finally, God would have one more plague that would surely make the king of Egypt to let Israel go
He would send an angel to kill all the firstborn in Egypt
But God gave Israel instructions on how to avoid the death of their firstborn
He said to take a lamb, a perfect lamb, and have it stay with them in their house for 2 weeks
They would then kill the lamb by slitting its throat and allowing the blood to run out
The blood was then to be taken and painted on the door posts of the house
So as the angel went through Egypt, when he would see the blood, he would pass over the home and spare the firstborn
The death of a lamb, saved many
It was lambs that were offered as sacrifices for sins in Israel
It was the picture of a lamb that is in who is slain for our sins
Then we come to John the Baptist who says “Behold the lamb who takes away the sins of the world”
We need a lamb for our sins
The wages of our sin is death ()
因为罪的工价乃是死；惟有 神的恩赐，在我们的主基督耶稣里，乃是永生。
Not physical death, that is only evidence that we have sinned
It is spiritual death, separated from God forever in hell
The Bible tells us,
按着律法，凡物差不多都是用血洁净的；若不流血，罪就不得赦免了。
Blood must be shed; someone must die for your sins!
Either you will, and you will die and suffer in hell
Or you can accept Christ’s payment on the cross as the one who takes your sin because He is the Lamb who was slain for our sins
When God sees the blood of Christ applied to your sins, He will pass over you in judgment that you may enter heaven
Repent of your sins! Believe in the Lamb who was slain for your sins!
Conclusion:
I plead with you, believe in Christ; have your sins forgiven tonight!There are many here who can help you understand how For the Christian, let us remember who we areWe are not great men and women of God but simply voices for GodLet’s point others to Christ!
