Close out Chapter 2 today…
Trust in God
(CSB) “22 He did not commit sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth; 23 when he was insulted, he did not insult in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten but entrusted himself to the one who judges justly.”
(CSB) “28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
We are going to switch gear: Reverence and Social Behavior from the respect aspect to the humility perspective…
Healing from God
(CSB) “24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree; so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds, you have been healed.”
(CSB) “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.”
Soul Keeper
Soul Keeper
(CSB) “25 For you were like sheep going astray, but you have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”
As we have seen, respect is to be given, no earning necessary…
Swallowing our pride is a tall challenge for many of us…
A converted Hindu gave the following address to a number of his fellow countrymen:
He knew the works that would be performed through him was the works from God, and he was humble enough to recognize that fact.
(CSB) “22 He did not commit sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth; 23 when he was insulted, he did not insult in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten but entrusted himself to the one who judges justly.”
(CSB) “24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree; so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds, you have been healed.”

1. Trust in God
(CSB) “22 He did not commit sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth; 23 when he was insulted, he did not insult in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten but entrusted himself to the one who judges justly.”
First thing I see here is that we, in no way shape or form, could ever be sinless, it will never happen!
I can guarantee that without being clothed in the righteousness of Christ, God will see just how black our hearts really are…
Jesus, our Prime Example, instead of lashing out, yelling, screaming or anything else, was humble enough to entrust everything to God
I think about a time when we were pre-Christmas shopping with our daughter, we were coming out of KB toy store… (dying cockroach)
When we put our trust in God, we can endure even the worst of situations.
The problem with us being able to trust all to God is our lack of faith
(CSB) “28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
If you really want to mess with someone’s head, be nice to them while they are being mean…
A man was once being conducted by a guide over a dangerous Alpine trail.
…but the guide said, "Do not fear to stand on my hand. That hand has never yet lost a man!"
The pierced hand of Christ has never yet lost a man who took that hand and put his trust in Him.
We want control, reality is, God is in control, Trust the one who knows all about us and what we are going through…
We must swallow our pride, to be humble enough to trust God
2. Healing from God
(CSB) “24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree; so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds, you have been healed.”
Our righteousness is but filthy rags, we are given the opportunity to live in righteousness, right relationship.
I can guarantee that without being clothed in the righteousness of Christ, God will see just how black our hearts really are…
Jesus brought about the healing we need: relationship
Heal (Lemma), cause someone to achieve health after having been sick, usually not used in the sense of a normal process, sometimes related to evil supernatural powers, and a sudden event as a sign
Guess what happens when we give our life to Christ!! We are lemma!!
What we are talking about here church is not taking an antibiotic and over a period of time getting better, we are talking about a miracle that happens as an instant cure from the sickness of evil, of the sin that has not only caused us but also those around us so much pain!!!
By His wounds, we are healed.
Our Social behavior should that like we are healed…
Humility during adversity demonstrates that we are healed.
3. Our Soul Keeper
(CSB) “25 For you were like sheep going astray, but you have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”
We were wayward souls…
They are of a gregarious nature...meaning they love to be with the herd, they are herbivores.
Sheep must have a leader (shepherd) and must be told what to do and where to go, otherwise they'll wander off and get lost.
They are very vulnerable to fear, frustration, pests, hunger.
Do you wonder why Jesus call us sheep yet? Why we need Him to Shepherd us?
Jesus is the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls…
We need Him to tell us what to do where to go… get lost
We gather on Sunday’s and Thursday, as a flock, obedient to our Shepherd, SO WE CAN STAY TOGETHER!!
We guidance, we need told what to do and where to go…
Why? We are vulnerable. Vulnerable to fear, frustration, those nasty pests are everywhere, bosses, co-workers, pastors…
We are vulnerable to hunger, without the Bread of Life, we will starve!
I have a question for you to ponder, fruit for thought, Jesus did not give us an antibiotic to heal us from the sins we commit, but Jesus provided for us a miraculous restoration of our souls, why do we dishonor Him?
I’m guilty… as sure as I am standing here, I’m sure you are too.
I cannot take the place of Jesus, but we need each other…
We need to assemble , exhort one another, give not get
Think about it, when we haven’t heard from one of our kids/parents for a while, are we concerned? Doesn’t it bother us?
We are family, if you are not here it bothers us, we miss you.
We don’t want you to be afraid, frustrated, and most assuredly, we don’t want you to starve…
Jesus is our Shepherd, He is the keeper of our souls…
