Prayer

Scripture:

Discussion

How has the Lord used these sermons on prayer in your personal life, family life, etc?
“Without prayer, striving is from our own strength” - What things do you strive for in your life? What is your inclination within that striving?
How does scripture mold and shape your prayers?
Scott stated, “We are going to follow our hearts.” What are ways that you are mindful of the way that your heart is specifically inclined in different situations?
Scott stated, that most mornings there is a “dark cloud” that is over his heart and over his mind when he wakes up, and how he prays through God’s Word to take each steps. This is a really honest look, and intimate thing to share with others. How do you strenghten your heart as you pursue the things that God has called you too?
What are the eight things that the Psalmist is asking the Lord for in this passage? How does this effect looking at your own heart?
The expulsive power of a new affection is a sermon by Thomas Chalmers. He lays out that a person will follow that which he loves, and that you do not “kill” a love, but that a higher love is what captivates the heart in turning it. What are the things that your hearts loves the most? How does that reflect scripture?
Scott shared that we are to:
Thank God that we need a heart that is inclined towards Christ (why is this important?)
Ask the Lord for an inclined heart towards him
Pursue what you pray for. (what are ways that we do this?)
There are three ways that we prayerfully pursue Christ:
Open the Bible
Open with a congregation
Open the Bible looking forward Christ.
How do we apply these things in our daily lives?
