, Parallel's to the Gospel

1. God brings salvation to His people. vs. 1
Genesis 7:1 ESV
1 Then the Lord said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation.
2 Peter 2:4–9 ESV
4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; 5 if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7 and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked 8 (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard); 9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,
A. God knows how to rescue the godly from trials.
B. God rescued His people
C. Noah and the family evidenced righteousness in their life. There was faith and repentance in their life.
D. The cross is the ultimate salvation for His people
2. The cross only purchases the souls of sinners. However, In God’s redemptive plan we also see a redeeming of nature.
In God’s planbut also nature is redeemed.
Genesis 7:2–3 ESV
2 Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals, the male and his mate, and a pair of the animals that are not clean, the male and his mate, 3 and seven pairs of the birds of the heavens also, male and female, to keep their offspring alive on the face of all the earth.
Isaiah 65:24–25 ESV
24 Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear. 25 The wolf and the lamb shall graze together; the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain,” says the Lord.
Is 65
Hosea 2:18 ESV
18 And I will make for them a covenant on that day with the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the creeping things of the ground. And I will abolish the bow, the sword, and war from the land, and I will make you lie down in safety.
Hosea
3. God’s Salvation saves from a gruesome judgment.
Man, woman, infant, pets, animals drowned slowly in a panic.
In Genesis you have judgement by water, in eternity judgement by fire.
Mark 9:34 ESV
34 But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest.
4. Salvation demands a moment of decision
There is a moment where all who are saved must make a decision and say yes to Jesus.
Salvation is not progressive in that you grow into becoming more saved over time. Binary - you either are saved or are not, based on a moment of decision by faith.
Genesis 7:7 ESV
7 And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him went into the ark to escape the waters of the flood.
Where were the sinful rebellious people?
Noah was a preacher of righteousness. Many heard a message of spiritual salvation and could have turned to God.
The ark was foolishness to the rebellious. They were blind to the value or meaning of the ark.
The cross is foolishness to those who are spiritually blind.
The message of the cross is come in faith and die to your way of life. The Gospel is not an attractional message.
We know this...
To be saved you must have a moment of decision.
Acts 16:25–31 ESV
25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, 26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were unfastened. 27 When the jailer woke and saw that the prison doors were open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.” 29 And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. 30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

5. Reigning down of judgement
Genesis 7:11–12 ESV
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened. 12 And rain fell upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
Flood - God’s judgment via the water not only came up, but also reigned down. This raining down of water was God’s judgment.
Cross - The judgement of the cross reigned down on the soul of Christ.
1 Peter 2:24 ESV
24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Heavier than the weight of water - if one was to lay in the deepest trench in the ocean - and the weight of a mile of water was on them - it would not compare to the weight of sin on the shoulders of Jesus.
6. God shut the door.
Genesis 7:16 ESV
16 And those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him. And the Lord shut him in.
God begins salvation and God finishes salvation.
God shut the family in - they were secure.
Ephesians 4:30 ESV
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
When we are saved, God seals us. He holds us, protects us
John 10:28–30 ESV
28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
7. The judgement was realized
The judgment happened
Genesis 7:17–24 ESV
17 The flood continued forty days on the earth. The waters increased and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. 18 The waters prevailed and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the face of the waters. 19 And the waters prevailed so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered. 20 The waters prevailed above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits deep. 21 And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all mankind. 22 Everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died. 23 He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark. 24 And the waters prevailed on the earth 150 days.
Hebrews 9:27 ESV
27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,
Hebrews 9:27–28 ESV
27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
We who have said Yes to Jesus have hope from the judgement.
