Intro:

“Pushed Mikaela through a wall”
That strategy doesn’t work unless we were fully committed to the plan.
Over the next 4 weeks, we are going to be talking about what it means to be “All In” as a Christian.
There is a story in the Gospel of Mark about someone who approached Jesus thinking that he was ready to be “all in” but he wasn’t.

Scripture

Mark 10:17–22 ESV
17 And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’ ” 20 And he said to him, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.” 21 And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
Mark
Listen to what this man says:
He has not committed murder
He has not committed aduktury
He has never stolen
He has never lied
He has never ripped someone off
He has always honored his Father and mother
That is one confident dude.
So, Jesus decides to play his game.
Because let’s be honest, We all know this guy isn’t real, right?
-no one in this room has kept all of those rules.
Jesus says, “Awesome. So glad you have lived a perfect life. Just one more thing...”
-Give away all your wealth.
-Why his wealth?
Because it was the one thing he was still clinging to.
You see, you can’t claim to be a Christians if you have something else in your life that is more important than he is.
Here’s the thing guys: Jesus gave everything for you, including his life.

And in return he asks you to be All In with him.

Over the next four weeks, we are going to discuss what it means to be “All in”
-with Christ
-with gratitude
-with Christian community
-with our testimony
Our relationship with Jesus can’t take the backseat to anything else in our lives.
For the Rich young ruler, it was his wealth. For you maybe its you grades, sports, friends, status...
whatever it is, don’t walk away from Christ disheartened because you refuse to give up something lesser for something greater.
That’s exactly what the young ruler did.
Let’s Pray.
