Second Imperative statement- And you will be a blessing
God started with a command Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family and go to the land I will show you.
- God started with a command Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family and go to the land I will show you.
-Second told him what would happen if he followed through
Promises-I will Make you into a great nation, I will bless you and make you famous
-the voice of the text then changes back to a command (imperative voice)
Command-And you will be a blessing to others.
Result - I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families
on the earth will be blessed through you.
Are we ok with our relationship with God being a 2 way street?
Are we ok for their to be conditions for God to pour out his blessings on our lives?
Are we ok for their to be conditions for God to pour out his blessings on our lives?
-Sometimes I have talked with people (general population) that feel like God shouldn’t expect anything if he blesses us.
Matthew 10:33 NLT
But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.
But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.
In the context of Jesus comforting his followers not to fear those who would oppose them, but Jesus made it clear there are expectations for those who follow him.
What is this expectation?
What does the word “Blessing” mean?
B-ra-ka(h)
Blessing - B-ra-ka(h) Gift
Blessing - B-ra-ka(h) Gift
This is the same word used for blessing in
When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings.
When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings.
The Metaphor that is being used is the refreshing rains from heaven on a parched autumn ground. (Spiritual/ Emotional rejuvenation)
For I will pour out water to quench your thirst and to irrigate your parched fields. And I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your children

In Isaiah’s day Judah was hoping that Egypt would save her from the Assyrians. But remarkably, in the Millennium these three powers, Assyria, Egypt, and Israel, will have a harmonious, peaceful relationship under God’s hand of blessing. All this, of course, will fulfill part of the promise to Abraham that “all peoples on earth will be blessed through” him (Gen. 12:3).

Here God is showing how he is planning to position Israel to be Peace-Makers of Enemy nations united, bringing Justice......God’s justice that will be like a salve to the world.

44:3–5. The Lord will revive Israel physically and spiritually. He will pour water on the … land, making it well watered (cf. 35:6–7; 41:18; 43:19–20) and He will pour His Holy Spirit (cf. 32:15) on their descendants. This outpouring of the Spirit will occur when the people have returned in belief to the land (cf. Ezek. 36:24, 27; Joel 2:25–29) just after the Messiah’s second coming to establish the Millennium. Redeemed Israel will prosper numerically like grass and poplar trees, and they will want to be known as righteous individuals (Isa. 44:5), unashamed of Him and their nation

(Not only Spiritual rejuvenation, but also physical rejuvenation)
-25In that day Israel will be the third, along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth.

God is calling us with his power working in us and through us to bless our world
Spiritually
Physically/ Tangibly
Relationally
Jesus also taught about this as well when he said
Matthew 28:18–20 NLT
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
This is tricky because there is no How-To-Manual written to explain a step by step for each of our lives.
Application
How do we do any of this?
This can be a tough job, but we don’t go into this alone. We have a helper that is always with us telling us where to go, what to say, and guiding how to live as Jesus did

-Holy Spirit
Walk by the Spirit
Start your day or end your day with centering yourself in Him listening for His voice, listening to his prompts as to what to do and what to say throughout your day. The Spirit wont assume anything and if we listen he will tell us what to say.....it’s a promise we have in scripture
If you say you have trouble hearing the voice of the Spirit or you aren’t sure how to listen to Him other than through scripture every Wednesday night at 7pm we practice talking and listening to the Spirit through scripture, our thoughts, and through others in the body who also listen to his voice.
2. Look for something good you can do for others
a. God gives us his thoughts and we can start living as Jesus lived in simple ways buying a coffee for a coworker, listening to someone who needs a good ear, being the joy of the Lord (Joyful presence).
3. Be involved in someones life outside of your immediate family (unbelievers life if possible)
John 13:35 NLT
Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
Again this is not something that we have a 1-2-3, a-b-c approach for
in fact you might say that walking by the spirit, doing good for others, and being involved in people’s lives can be quite difficult and quite “Messy”
God is calling Melwood into the lives of people who dont know him and that WILL BE MESSY
Justice, Mercy, forgiveness, taking action, self-sacrifice, Salvation
God gave Abram a promise that he would fulfill.......Jesus also gives us a command to make disciples and also gives us the same promise to always be with us even when things get Messy
