The Conclusion
Welcome
Intro
Well Well Well we have finally come to the conclusion of the Sermon on the Mount
What better way to wrap up a sermon than this right
Matthew 7:24–29 NASB95
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 “And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26 “Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 “The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.” 28 When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; 29 for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
This is where we will be this morning
But before we get to wrap up I wanted to as quickly as we can recap the sermon on the mount
If you can remember all the way back to the Beatitudes we learned that that is not a list to check off
But rather it is a guide in what it looks like to what with Jesus
Then we see saw how as light and salt we are to effect our surroundings
You and I as we walk with Jesus are to effect our surroundings everywhere
We are to live out our faith in front of others so that it points to Jesus
Everything you and I do should point to Jesus and if it points to us then news flash we are doing it wrong
Then we talked about giving and not just about giving although that is part of it
It also means giving God of your time, your energy, your abilities
But church it is also giving God the best part of you, which means that getting up in the morning and spending time with Jesus
Then Jesus teaches on prayer
Jesus gives up an example of how to pray and not a prayer to repeat
You and I are to pray because prayer changes things
Then not only does God call us to fast as part of our daily walk
But as we fast we are called to not worry because God is faithfull and will provide for us
Then once again Jesus invites us to pray
That we are to seek the Lord in prayer
To ask, to seek, and to knock is how we are to pray
We talked about how Jesus invites us once again to seek the Father through a praying relationship
And church if a pastors says the same thing twice in a sermon we would de well to listen
Then we last week we talked about gates and fruit
And how you and I are to filter everything through scripture
Church we are to come to practice, we are to know the playbook and church we are to run our routes
Which brings us to this morning as we wrap up the sermon on the mount
Matthew 7:24–25 NASB95
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 “And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.
Jesus is calling those people sitting on the side of the mountain to action
That if you are sitting on the side of the mountain and have heard those words and you begin to act on those words
Meaning church you begin to do the things we have talked about the last few months
Meaning you begin to effect those around you for the name of Jesus
Meaning you begin to spend a quality amount of time in prayer with Jesus
Meaning you begin come to practice and know the play book and then begin to run your routes
When we begin to put into action the things we have talked about over the last few months
The Bibles says you are a wise person
How cool is that, you want to know how to be wise, simply do the things written in scirpture!
But scripture calls you a wise person because when the storms of life come you will have a solid foundation
Those sitting on the side of the mountain would have been familier with storms and stroms that damaged houses
Church you and I understand those same storms
In Kansas when they build houses they build them on solid foundations because we have storms
If you and I begin to do the things of scripture we are building our foundation on The Rock
This brick is a rock that is solid, it will survive a storm
We know this makes sense to build our foundation on
Do you understand that it makes sense to be doing the things the BIble says because with that as your foundation you will survive the storm
that is why Jesus is giving us the sermon on the mount
Matthew 7:26–27 NASB95
26 “Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 “The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”
Then Jesus says the exact opposite
A good preacher will wrap the sermon and ensure you know what was talked about
Jesus is making it clear if you want to a fool then you will not do what you have just heard
No one sets out to be a fool but because life happens we tend to fail because we have not do the things we have heard in this sermon
If you and I hear what Jesus says and the warnings that Jesus gives us and do not do them we are very foolish
Jesus loves us and desires good for us why would we not listen and then do what He tells us
Church when we do what Jesus says we are given to eternal life
John 10:27–28 NASB95
27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.
Those of us who are believers know Jesus’ voice and we do what He is saying
When we do what He says we are given eternal life and no one take that away
So church when the storms of life come because you know they will and maybe some of you have experienced those storms
You will have a solid foundation to stand on and with that solid foundation you can weather the storm
James 1:22 NASB95
22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.
We are to be doers of the Word from Jesus
It is that simple
So church as we wrap up the sermon on the mount might I just challenge you to be a doer of the word
Do what we have talked about the last few months
Begin to pray to God
Read your Bible
Listen to God
Church and then do what He says
Matthew 7:28–29 NASB95
28 When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; 29 for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
When Jesus had finished everyone was so amazed and surprised because they had never heard anyone speak with such authority
So you know it must be true
You know that if you will do what Jesus calls you to do through a personal relationship with Him you can have faith that He will keep His promises
Because He speaks with an authority of God
Had this been just a normal sermon given by a normal man people would have been moved for a few months maybe and then died off
But because we are listening to the Son of God himself and it is through that personal relationship we are forever changed
CLOSING
So as the band comes up
I want to ask you this morning do you have a personal relationship with Jesus
If you don’t then your foundation is built on the sand and you will not survive
You can change that this morning
You can come down front and there will be people down front who can open up the Bible and show you how you can begin a relationship with Jesus this morning
Or maybe you do have a personal relationship with Jesus but because of sin in your life you are distant from God
Would come repent and seek forgiveness and run to Jesus
Or maybe you need to spend sometime in prayer the altar is open
