The best summary statement of the flood account (Genesis 6-9)

• Genesis 6:5—pre-flood summary—“God saw . . .”

• The actions of men—the wickedness

• The attitude of men—every imagination and thought

Very important principle in the flood

• Man’s sin condition and actions brought about the flood

• But the flood didn’t cure the problem

• Judgment does not cure. Only God’s grace will save man.

Man’s sin:

• It was widespread, Genesis 6:11-12

• It was continuous, 6:5

• It was replete, 6:5

• It was brazen, 6:11, 13

Best expanded statement of the flood account, 6:11-13:

• “Corrupt”—6:11

• “Violence”—6:11

Noah’s distinction, 6:8-9:

• God’s grace—the foundation of his relationship with God

• God’s righteousness—the result of having grace (imputed righteousness)

• Fellowship with God—the privilege

Noah in Hebrews 11:7:

• Characterized by faith in the Word (Genesis 6:22)

• Related to the Word in terms of obedience

• He had absolute respect for the character of God

• He proclaimed the Word of God with no results
