Habakkuk airs his complaints against God for allowing evil to exist unchecked. Yet, God will prove to him that God is still just.

Introduction

In moments like this, many will shake their fist at God and ask, “Why?” While others will point to why they don’t believe.

Habakkuk’s First Complaint

It’s an oracle that Habakkuk saw.
Habakkuk 2:2 ESV
And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.
Does God see?
Does God care?
Where is God’s justice?

The LORD’s Response

Habakkuk 1:5 ESV
“Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.

The Chaldeans??
God even acknowledges their character as “bitter and hasty.”
They are self-sufficient for right and wrong…the
Internal moral compass
God is Sovereign.
The true God will use those that don’t even worship Him.

Habakkuk’s Second Complaint

Acknowledge God’s sovereignty…but....
Knowing the Truth doesn’t necessitate living according to it.
Habakkuk’s essence of the complaint is reduplicated “idly.”
Jerusalem isn’t as bad in comparison!!
The dangers of morality rankings.
God makes them like fish so the Babylonians can catch them.
Luxury - war as a means to wealth.
His complaint ends with the same question...
How long will God allow injustice?
How well does your faith sustain you in times of doubt or struggle?
We acknowledge that those periods of struggle will come.
Sometimes we need to build up a reserve.
The Spirit supplies us with all we need.
