As we begin our look at one of Israel's most famous kings – Solomon ('the wise') – we are reminded straight away that human kingdoms are often shaky and uncertain. Even before we're introduced to the strengths and weaknesses of Solomon's character, we see his kingship under threat and his position in jeopardy. And it is an important reminder for us, right at the start of his story, that God is the true King of kings and only his kingdom is unshakeable. It is only He who can firmly establish Solomon's reign and cause the kingdom of Israel to flourish. And this reminder should play a large part in our own lives, whether we're undergoing transitions, trying to rule over ourselves or seeking to provide leadership to others. God is King.
