We must give context to this event
Enmity between your seed and her seed Genesis
Man’s coverup and God’s exposure
Mans inability to win using his own wiles and strength
: Entry into the Promised Land
This is the Promised Land
The Land promised by Yahweh to Abraham and to His Seed. God wanted His people to go in and possess the land. They tried before but failed. They had little courage
actually shows us that the people assessed the land and were overcome by the site of the local inhabitants. Their sheer size was imposing, and they had massive fortified cities. (, .)
So Jamie said, “Wouldn’t it be great if we were able to see the spiritual realm and the angels on our side fighting for us.” Actually, we would be terrified by the presence of such angels in our midst.
Now they are faced with one of the greatest fortified cities of the time. Jericho. With thick walls and imposing fortifications it had stood for several thousand years and it seemed an impossible task to overrun it.
Their hearts melted and they were overcome with fear
God’s Plan to Effect Purification
God is holy and wants to purify and make his World “good” again
The plan of God to create a people after his own heart
“God’s People in God’s Place under God’s Rule”
Eden —> Israel —> The Church
God’s holiness challenges the World. If we are seeking to live a Holy life then we are automatically at enmity with the World
