Say my Name!
Prayer of Jabez Part 2
14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
’Elohei Yisra’el
(NKJV)
9 Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.”
10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
Honor is the Key to Access
(NKJV)
12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
(NKJV)
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.
(NKJV)
23 A man’s pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor.
(NKJV)
1 Dead flies putrefy the perfumer’s ointment, And cause it to give off a foul odor; So does a little folly to one respected for wisdom and honor.
(NKJV)
57 So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.”
Have you ever wanted to meet someone famous. . .but you didn’t have a backstage pass?
Have you wanted to talk with a highly successful person. . .but you didn’t have immediate access?
You may not have access to the stars of politics, business, sports or entertainment . . .but you do have immediate and unlimited access to the wisest, most successful person you’ll ever meet?
Our great God.
We gained the right to immediate access to God through the blood of Jesus shed on Calvary’s cross.
We have access to God and the Holy Spirit 24/7. Any time. . .any place. . .for as long as you desire to be in His presence.
How do you gain this immediate access to Jesus?
By honoring His Word and His children. That is the secret to what Jabez did he was wise enough to honor the right people. I found that there are at least seven ways honor brings you immediate access.
1. Serving someone else when it’s not required or convenient. . .brings immediate access.
gives an amazing account of how Eliezer, chief servant of Abraham traveled back to his master’s homeland to find a wife for Abraham’s son, Isaac.
Eliezer’s caravan loaded ten camels with fine gifts for the fortunate woman whom he would choose as Isaac’s bride. As he approached the well Eliezer prayed that God would reveal Isaac’s future wife by her generosity and honor.
says:
“And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.”
As he finished praying, along came Rebekah…the most beautiful young woman Eliezer had ever seen. He asked her for a cup of water and without hesitation, she gave him the water and then something very important happened.
says:
“And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink. And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking. And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.”
Here’s an Animal Planet fact for you…a camel can drink up to 25 gallons of water at one sitting….
Let’s see…that’s ten camels at 25 gallons of water each…that adds up to 250 gallons of water. Back then the most common water vessel was a 5 gallon container and since water weighs 8 pounds per gallon that adds up to about 40 pounds per trip so that means Rebekah made 50 trips carrying 40 pounds of water each time and that adds up to a ton of water…literally. Two thousand pounds equal a ton.
With each step Rebekah was taking a step toward her destiny and she didn’t even know it. . .simply, because of the honor she was giving a stranger.
Within hours, Rebekah’s family was blessed with Eliezer’s gifts…they had agreed to the marriage of Rebekah to Isaac and she was off to establish a legacy that is unmatched in all of human history.
She became the mother of Jacob, who became the father of the Israelite people, from whom the Messiah would come….she became part of one of the wealthiest families in the entire East….all because of her above and beyond offering and her generous spirit.
When Rebekah honored Eliezer, Abraham’s Chief of Staff by watering his camels she was positioned for immediate access to her destiny. . .and yes, a husband.
2. Submission brings immediate access.
says:
“And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.”
Ruth was showing Naomi great honor. . .with her submissive spirit.
in the New Living Translation says:
“Now there was a wealthy and influential man in Bethlehem named Boaz, who was a relative of Naomi’s husband, Elimelech. One day Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go out into the harvest fields to pick up the stalks of grain left behind by anyone who is kind enough to let me do it.”
Boaz at first didn’t realize who Ruth was but he knew what she looked like and how hard she was working. He was definitely checking her out and it wasn’t initially because of her character.
in the New Living Translation says:
“Then Boaz asked his foreman, “Who is that young woman over there? Who does she belong to?”
When Boaz discovered who Ruth was, he was even more impressed because he had heard of her fine reputation.
in the New Living Translation says:
“Boaz went over and said to Ruth, “Listen, my daughter. Stay right here with us when you gather grain; don’t go to any other fields. Stay right behind the young women working in my field.
“See which part of the field they are harvesting, and then follow them. I have warned the young men not to treat you roughly. And when you are thirsty, help yourself to the water they have drawn from the well.
“Ruth fell at his feet and thanked him warmly. “What have I done to deserve such kindness?” she asked. “I am only a foreigner.”
Your reputation. . .your character will always bring recognition, promotion and it will draw a financial anointing into your life. . .because of the honor you bestow on others.
in the New Living Translation says:
“Boaz answered her, "I've heard all about you—heard about the way you treated your mother-in-law after the death of her husband, and how you left your father and mother and the land of your birth and have come to live among a bunch of total strangers. God reward you well for what you've done—and with a generous bonus besides from God, to whom you've come seeking protection under his wings."
No question Ruth got rewarded because of the honor she showed Naomi.
3. Presenting a Significant gift of honor gives immediate access
says:
“And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the Lord, she came to prove him with hard questions. And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.”
Have you ever wondered how much her gifts were worth?
says:
“And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.”
The Message Bible translation of says:
“She then gave the king four and a half tons of gold, and also sack after sack of spices and expensive gems. There hasn't been a cargo of spices like that since that shipload the queen of Sheba brought to King Solomon.”
Four and a half tons is 9,000 pounds. That’s why the New Living Translation says:
“Then she gave the king a gift of 9,000 pounds of gold…”
In school, you and I learned that there are 16 ounces in a pound and 9,000 pounds equals 144,000 ounces. As I prepared this teaching, the price of gold was $1,602.36 per ounce.
Are you ready for this? In today’s market, just the gold that the Queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon would be worth roughly $230,739,840.00. That is 230 million 739 thousand 840 dollars.
I would call that a significant gift. Plus she also gave him “…sack after sack of spices and expensive gems….”
Even though Solomon was very wealthy. . .Solomon was impressed with the honor the Queen showed him by the generosity of her gifts.
Now only did she get her questions answer. . .but she got blessed as well.
in the Amplified Bible says:
“King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all she wanted, whatever she asked, besides his gifts to her from his royal bounty. So she returned to her own country, she and her servants.”
4. Honor gives you immediate access to a fresh anointing
Elisha was very faithful to the prophet even when Elijah encouraged him to leave. The honor which Elisha extended to the prophet was rewarded.
in the Amplified Bible says:
“And when they had gone over, Elijah said to Elisha, Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you. And Elisha said, I pray you, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.
“He said, You have asked a hard thing. However, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you—but if not, it shall not be so.
“As they still went on and talked, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire parted the two of them, and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
“And Elisha saw it and he cried, My father, my father! The chariot of Israel and its horsemen! And he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces.”
I’m not going to take the time to list the various ways in which Elisha honored Elijah but he did. . .even when it was not pleasant.
As a result Elisha was given immediate access to a double portion of anointing.
5. Spontaneous honor brings immediate access to the desires of your heart
One day this wealthy woman was sitting on her front porch when she saw the man of God walking by. . .she made a spontaneous decision to honor. . .to bless and care for the man of God.
says:
“And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained (strong, firm, resolute) him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread. And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually. Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.
“And it fell on a day, that he came thither, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there. And he said to Gehazi his servant, called her, she stood before him. And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? Wouldest thou be spoken for to the king or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people. And he said, What then is to be done for her? and Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.
“And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door. And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid. And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.”
The honor the Shulamite woman showed the prophet gave her what man couldn’t. . .the child she had wanted.
6. Faith and honor brings immediate access to healing
in the New English Translation Bible says:
“For she kept saying to herself, "If only I touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
The woman with the issue of blood made a decision of destiny. She knew if she could only touch his cloak. . .her life would be changed forever.
The woman honored the anointing that was on Jesus. . .and she was healed.
There is one other thing I want to emphasis on this teaching.
When you and I read the word touch we think of a light, gentle, faint tap with a finger or hand. Secular dictionaries confirm that definition.
However, it’s not the definition of touched I found in the Strong’s Concordance.
The Greek word for touched is haptomai and it means:
“to fasten one's self to, adhere to, cling to.”
If you want God to move in your life. . .it’s going to take more than a light touch of faith you’ll need to fasten, adhere and cling to His Word.
Too many believers think that a light touch or momentary embrace of the Word is going to be a panacea. . .or solve all their problems. Not necessarily so. You must become one with the Word.
Your faith in action and the honor you give to the anointing. . .will determine how you finish the race that is the days of our lives.
We could also use the example of blind Bartimaeus… in .
“. . .blind Bartimaeus. . .sat by the highway begging. . .when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus. . .have mercy on me. . .And Jesus …commanded him to be called … saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise…..
“And he, casting away his garment, rose and came to Jesus. . .And Jesus answered and said unto him, What will thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
“And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way: thy faith made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus in the way.”
In this beautiful story in , did you notice what blind Bartimaeus did? First, he called out to our Lord in faith. . .then he “. . .casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.”
It is interesting to note that in this particular period of history the coat he threw away was a special garment that certified Bartimaeus as really being blind. He cast aside his old way of receiving the things that he needed and wanted. . .that coat was the thing Bartimaeus had previously trusted in. . .however, in great anticipation he cast it down.
When we give honor where honor is due. . .take a step of faith. . .casting off our previous way of doing things. . .we gain immediate access to His blessing flow.
7. Forgiveness gives you immediate access
There was a defining moment in our lives when we asked Jesus to forgive us of our sins and become the Lord of our life. At that very moment. . .we gained immediate access to eternal and abundant life.
in the Amplified Bible says:
“If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].”
in the New Living Translation says:
“I—yes, I alone—will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.”
says:
“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.”
in the Amplified Bible says:
“Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!”
There are so many examples of the blessings and benefits immediately received by those who gave honor to others.
The bible says that Jabez was more honorable that his brothers so he got a blessing that his brothers didn’t get!
The next key is that Jabez called on the name of the Lord!
Call on the name of the Lord
All Christians have at some point prayed to God. God hears these prayers, whether they’re silent, quiet, or loud. But the practice of calling, which is a form of praying, is definitely audible. In the Bible, the Hebrew word for call means to call out to, to cry unto, and the Greek word means to invoke a person, to call a person by name.
For example, when a little boy falls off a swing, he immediately cries out loud, “Mommy!” His mother hears and runs to him, wipes away his tears, and soothes him. Children cry out to their mothers when they’re hungry, tired, or scared. They cry because they’re helpless and they need to be cared for.
Similarly, by crying out to the Lord, we’re saying we’re hungry for Him, we need Him, and we can’t make it without Him. In other words we are not only to pray the Word back to God but we can also pray His name back to God!
Praying the Names of God
Studying about and praying over the names of God is a meaningful way to learn more about the attributes of God and how each is reflected in how He cares for you. It will breathe new life into your spiritual walk.
There’s something so personal and powerful about speaking the names of God in your prayers.
Most of us use the same name or names for God when we go before Him such as “God”, “Father”, “Lord” or “Heavenly Father”. By praying to God using different names appearing in scripture can have a huge impact on how you pray and how God answers our prayers.
Here are some ways to incorporate praying the names of God in your quiet time with the Lord:
Read through a few times and write down in your prayer journal all of the ways He promises to care for you.
When you are praying for healing for someone or something, pray to God using His name, Jehovah Rapha.
When you are praying for God to meet a need for you or on behalf of someone else, use His name Jehovah Jireh. KNOW that He is the One Who can provide.
There is Power in the Name!!
(NKJV)
29 Then Jacob asked, saying, “Tell me Your name, I pray.” And He said, “Why is it that you ask about My name?” And He blessed him there.
(NKJV)
18 And the Angel of the Lord said to him, “Why do you ask My name, seeing it is wonderful?”
(NKJV)
14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
(NKJV)
8 I am the Lord, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images.
(NKJV)
11 For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles; In every place incense shall be offered to My name, And a pure offering; For My name shall be great among the nations,” Says the Lord of hosts.
(NKJV)
2 But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves.
3 You shall trample the wicked, For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet On the day that I do this,” Says the Lord of hosts.
(NKJV)
5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.
(NKJV)
20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
(NKJV)
29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.
(NKJV)
13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
(NKJV)
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
(NKJV)
16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
(NKJV)
13 “I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.
(NKJV)
8 “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.
Say my name…
’Elohei Yisra’el
(NKJV)
9 Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.”
10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
Adonai
The Lord Most High. The One in charge.
First found in and is used 434 times in the Bible. Because the Jews have a tradition of not pronouncing nor spelling out the promised proper name of God they often would use Adonai instead of YHWH. Adonai means Lord, Master, or Owner. This name emphasizes that God is in charge of his creation and his people, Lord of lords.
Adonai is the shorter version of His royal title. It expresses His majesty, respect, and authority. In English translated Bibles, it is normally translated as Lord and often combined with Yahweh to refer to God as Lord God. Adonai describes God as the One who is in charge of all things.
Is God the boss in your life? It’s easy to say that God is in control, but often our actions or words do not match up with that statement. God, Adonai, must be our ultimate authority. We (and I’m talking me!) need to let him be in charge of our life – in all things, all hours, all ways.
Yahweh
Yahweh means “The Lord” – Yahweh is derived from the Hebrew word for “I AM.
First found in and is used 6519 times in the Bible!
Yahweh is the proper name of God. It is translated as Lord and Master. By Jewish tradition this name is too holy to pronounce or write. Instead of writing it out, then, they simply wrote four letters without any vowels: YHWH.
I find it fascinating that Jews stopped saying the name all together in the third century. They were afraid of breaking the fourth commandment – taking the Lord’s name in vain.
Some Bible verses featuring Yahweh as the name of God: , , , , .
Jehovah Rohi (alternative spelling: Jehovah Raah)
The Lord is my shepherd.
Rô’eh from which Raah derived, means “shepherd” in Hebrew. A shepherd is one who feeds or leads his flock to pasture. An extended translation of this word, rea’, which means “friend” or “companion.” This shows the intimacy that God desires between Himself and His people. When the two words are combined – Jehovah Raah – it can be translated as “The Lord my Friend.” Is that not one of the most beautiful and comforting things to hear and know? God is my shepherd, my friend. He cares for me.

Jehovah Elohim
Creator, majestic.
First appears in and is used 2599 times in the Bible.
This is the very first name given to God and is found in the very first verse of the entire Bible. This name denotes that God is the creator and majestic ruler over all. Elohim is actually the plural word.

Jehovah Jireh
The Lord Will Provide or the Lord Who Provides
Only occurs once in
When Isaac inquired to Abraham where the lamb was for the sacrifice, Abraham responded that the Lord would provide. After God provided the ram for the sacrifice (as He promised and God always delivers on a promise) Abraham named that place on Mount Moriah Jehovah Jireh, meaning The Lord Will Provide.
God always provides for us. Not always in the way or time that we want, but He always does.
Jireh comes from the root word “to see,”. God sees and has always seen. He forsaw our need of redemption and provided for us by giving His son to die on the cross. This name of God, proves that God is willing and able to meet every need of His people.
While this name of God appears in this form, just once, some related verses can be found in: , , , , , , .
Jehovah Rapha

Rapha is translated as “to heal” or make healthful. God is the Great Physician who heals his people. He heals our bodies, but more importantly, He heals and restores our spirits and souls. Most of all, He has healed me from my past sin and life without Him.

Abba
Father – This is the “Distinguished title” of God in the New Testament.
Found in scripture only three times, in the passages of , , and . Only two speakers use this term to refer to God: Jesus and the apostle Paul. That fact is telling in the relationship that both Jesus and Paul have with God and what both represent in the Christian faith.
