8-9
Context - the Flood took place. Everyone outside the earth died, except those who were in the ark.
150 days water remained on the earth.
The ark came to rest on the mountain chain of Ararat (in modern day Turkey).
After the ark came to rest, Noah waited 40 days and sent a raven out, then a dove (the dove returned with no place to land). Water was still covering the earth.
A week later Noah sent out a Dove. It returned with a fresh Olive leaf.
He knew the waters had subsided.
Noah waited another 7 days and sent the dove, but it never returned.
13 In the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried from off the earth. And Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dry.
vs. 13
-Every living things came out of the Ark.

8:1 … But God remembered,
God keeps His promises
15 For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.
16 That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, 17 as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. 18 In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.” 19 He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb.
20 No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God,
Speaking of the promise to Abraham and Sarah to have a child and for Him to be the father of many nations ...
21 fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.
19 He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. 20 No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, 21 fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.
Romans 4:19
20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
Hebrews 10:
22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
God is a God who remembers. God keeps His Word. He keeps His promises.
God through the ark promised to save physically and God kept His promise.
God through His son has promised to save spiritually. God has kept His promise.
An observation - God loves a sacrifice. vs. 21
21 And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.
Gen 8:21
2 And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
While God does love a sacrifice from His people, there is a warning.
3 To do righteousness and justice
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
Transition. God keeps a promise and God makes a promise...
God makes a promise -
Vs. 21 “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention (imagination kjv) of man’s heart is evil from his youth.
“I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth.
-God sees that there may be a future where He desires to destroy the earth again.
-He sees this because He sees the evil in humankind’s heart.
-With a heart of stone we desire evil.
-This has given rise to the doctrine of man’s depravity.
-Runs deeply counter to Humanism.
Jeremiah
23 Yet they did not listen or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck, that they might not hear and receive instruction.
Romans 3
9 What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, 10 as it is written:
“None is righteous, no, not one;
11 no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one.”
13 “Their throat is an open grave;
they use their tongues to deceive.”
“The venom of asps is under their lips.”
14 “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 in their paths are ruin and misery,
17 and the way of peace they have not known.”
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
19 Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.
gen 3:
9 But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” 11 He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” 12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
14 The Lord God said to the serpent,
“Because you have done this,
cursed are you above all livestock
and above all beasts of the field;
on your belly you shall go,
and dust you shall eat
all the days of your life.
15 I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and her offspring;
he shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel.”
16 To the woman he said,
“I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing;
in pain you shall bring forth children.
Your desire shall be contrary to your husband,
but he shall rule over you.”
17 And to Adam he said,
“Because you have listened to the voice of your wife
and have eaten of the tree
of which I commanded you,
‘You shall not eat of it,’
cursed is the ground because of you;
in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;
18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you;
and you shall eat the plants of the field.
Here is hope, here is the Gospel.
24 I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.
That God, as He initiates the Gospel in our lives removes our hearts of stone. God changes our desires.
He gives us a heart of flesh. God gives us a heart of humility. A heart that desires to grow spiritually.
Ezekl 36:24-27
