calls on us as Christians to evaluate our lives together as husbands and wives.
Admittedly there are good marriages and bad marriages. Marriages that honor one another and marriages that honor God.
Which of these marriages do you suppose is the best marriage?
Today’s focus will be on a God honoring marriage… This goes beyond just husband and wife, but also to Christ and His bride
speaks of our wives in a Biblical sense...
That passage builds wives up and demonstrates the qualities of a Godly wife.

3 In the same way, wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, even if some disobey the word, they may be won over without a word by the way their wives live 2 when they observe your pure, reverent lives.

3 Don’t let your beauty consist of outward things like elaborate hairstyles and wearing gold jewelry or fine clothes, 4 but rather what is inside the heart,bh—the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight

5 For in the past, the holy women who put their hope in God also adorned themselves in this way, submitting to their own husbands, 6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You have become her children when you do what is good and do not fear any intimidation

7 Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker partner, showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.

A God honoring marriage will seek to be a

Good Couple

In the last few weeks we have been talking about submission...
While slaves were not necessarily voluntary in their submission… God Honoring to be submissive to husbands...
Peter uses six verses to teach us about the good wife… Guys we are Brides of Christ Jesus...
Since Christians was relatively new, marriage perspective changed
Wives were expected to follow in the religion of their husbands...
However, God’s plea is that we honor Him first, believing on the Son who died for our sins, was buried, and resurrected on the third day...

3 In the same way, wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, even if some disobey the word, they may be won over without a word by the way their wives live 2 when they observe your pure, reverent lives.

In The Same Way
What this portrays is that both the husband and wife have obligations to one another as well as to God...
In order for us to apply this, we need to define this...

a: friendly or harmonious relationship

b: an agreement of opinion or feeling: adjustment of differences

c: a mutual agreement not formally entered into but in some degree binding on each side

Both the wife and the husband have “in the same way” attached to their command in living a Godly marriage...
Harmonious relationship… adjustment of differences… binding on each side… Wife submissive, Husband repentant...
When we hear the word submission, we tend to get a little beside ourselves… 1st century was a different time
Not always “living under the order of”
We have seen how some civil disobedience is sometimes necessary...
Today we are more concerned with the “What we can do” or “What our rights are.”
But as husbands and wives that have God honoring marriages, there are some things we must to do.
Two guys driving down the road discussing marriage, “I believe in a wife submitting her husband, but I don’t believe the husband ever has the right to demand it. In fact, I know that when I am worthy of submission, my wife submits; and when I am unworthy of it, she does not. My responsibility as a husband is to be worthy.”
1. Ladies submit to your husbands/husbands sacrifice for your wife.
There is rarely, if ever, a submission problem unless controlling issue...
Husbands, not “getting our way” does not mean we use the submission card… love and devoted service to our wives… (selfish)
Does not mean to forsake getting together with other Christians, praising Jesus, praying to God, to win the husband…
Husbands, spiritual leaders, lead fellowship, praise, prayer...
I think this is where we fall short, God first...
Love God, love your neighbor as yourself...
2. Wives/husbands must love, honor, and cherish their husbands/wives.
It’s in the contract… Wedding vows...
As help-mates, wives should be above reproach, loving, and serving.
Men, these are characteristics of faithful men/leaders in the church...

7b showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life

SOME THINGS ABOUT men and women apparently do not change: Just as men in the ancient world had a tendency to be demanding, both sexually and emotionally, so also today; and just as women had a tendency to desire compliments for appearance, so also today.

We know that some things about men and women never seem to change.
Men of old had a tendency to be demanding: sexually and emotionally.
Women had a desire for compliments on their appearance…
Men are, as a rule, are physically stronger than women, as a result, men tend to tragically assert their strength and overpower women.
Women on the other hand tragically use their sexuality to manipulate and use people… guys are suckers for a flirt
These aspects speak into the character of who we are as men and women
When our outward appearance is more important that our inward self, we are in a bad way!!!
1. Look good-feel good (Myth: black hearts/public appearance)
We may feel good, but are we really good?
Clowns paint their faces to portray someone they are not… cover up
Feel good by being a person of moral character… Honor God, Honor Spouse, Honor marriage...
2. Spouse is Number One Two
Reality is, if we put God first, we are going to look good...
Submitting to the Lord causes us to head His Divine Guidance
Esteem others as better than ourselves...
Spouses should be our number two go to
Our number two fan/encourager

Women adorned themselves in the ways of the Lord...
Guys, if we want our prayers to be answered, we need to be honoring our wives, sacrificing for them, remembering they are coheirs...
Ladies should not be intimidated by the world… dress this way, hair...
When things get tough, trust God...
What does it mean to put our hope in God?
First, ladies desire a husband who is loving, caring, sensitive, and understanding… Men think they want He Man, success, fancy stuff...
When we put our hope in God these false idols begin to vanish and we are conformed to the image of Christ...
Call through the day… “I Just Called to Say, I Love You”
Bring home flowers/ cooking favorite meal
My wife indulges the bike, I indulge her shopping...
Showering attention all the time, not just when you want something...
BFF, best friend, best listener, best partner, date each other!!!
