Paul informs them that He loves them with the love of God and possesses a deep desire for them. It is important to note that this love comes from God and has resulted in Paul having a desire to pray for these people.
In verse 9, it is important to note that his prayer is that the Church of Philippi may also grow in God’s love. Paul denotes to two emphasis of his prayer. He desires them to grow in the knowledge of christ. The knowledge of Christ is polarizing. It reveals what is right and what is wrong, which lends to discernment. Acting in this discernment lends to producing fruit which glorifies God.
