If I Had Only One Day
If I Had Only One Day
Introduction: Consider for a moment that you only had one day to live. What would you do with that one day?
Maybe you would spend it doing something you had always wanted to do, but had never gotten the chance.
Introduction: People spend a great deal of time in this life doing many things. However, all time spent is not time well spent. People spend a lot of time on unimportant things. Some people spend time majoring in the minor, and minoring in the major.
Maybe you would choose to spend it with family and friends.
Maybe you would want to spend that one day fulfilling some fantasy, or perhaps it would be spent as had every other day of your life had been spent.
In this verse, David seems to be considering that thought and comes to the conclusion that one day spent serving God is better than 1,000 days spent doing anything else. It seems to me that David is saying that if he only had one day in which to live, that he would spend it serving the Lord.
The purpose of this sermon is to encourage someone to use the time God has given to us in a good way; so when shall have come to the end of this journey on this side, it can be said that the time we had was time well spent.

· (v.10a) For a day…is BETTER than…
· One day…not one year…not a quarter of a year…not one month…not one week
· BETTER than a thousand [anywhere else]
· Better to be in the presence of God

· The Psalmist makes a choice…life is full of choices.
· Many of us here have made wrong choices
· And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose ye this day whom ye will serve...but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. ()
· , “And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, ‘How long halt ye between 2 opinions? If the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him…’”

A Place of Service -
A Place of Surrender
A Place of Satisfaction
· To be a Door Keeper…the lowest station in connection with the Lord’s house is better than the highest position among the godless.
· The doorkeeper was a keeper at the gates
· I would rather be fixed to a post in the house of my God, than lie at liberty in the tents of the wicked.
o I had rather be A DOORKEEPER…
▪ A DOORKEEPER, because the lowest station in connection with the Lord's house is better than the highest position among the godless.
▪ A DOORKEEPER, only to wait at his threshold and peep within, so as to see Jesus, is bliss.
▪ A DOORKEEPER, because to bear burdens and open doors for the Lord is more honorable than to reign among the wicked.
▪ Every man has his choice, and this is ours. God's worst is better than the devil's best. God's doorstep is a happier rest than downy couches within the pavilions of royal sinners, though we might lie there for a lifetime of luxury.
o I don’t know about you, but I’d rather be a doorkeeper!
·
· Thank God for doors…(
The Conclusion: IF I HAD ONLY ONE DAY--
THIS IS JUST A REHEARSAL…BECAUSE WE ARE GOING TO A LAND OF NO MORE...
