Intro: Own is to have a legal right to something.
Background into text: Jesus is criticizing the leadership and the rich to show they are not all they think they are in the eye of God. The Lord gives grace to the humble and opposes the proud,

Giving is not always easy.

Some give because the have access and it does not hurt them. Sort of like you are flush with cash and say, “Keep the change.” Or you are out with friends and you say it is my treat!” The ability to give when when you do not have abundance makes you clinch a little tighter to what you do have.
The rich donate and some of the wealthiest are known for the philanthropy. There is also studies that sow how the poorest states give the most.

Compare and contrast

The Rich
Give their gifts.
They are giving from their abundance.
They have things to spare and therefore give.
The gift does not hurt them or leave them lacking.
The rich are not dependent on government assistance or others necessarily.
The poor widow.
Widow describes her social economical status.
She is living in poverty.
She is alone and has no real way to gain income.
She is dependent on others to give what she does have.
She is in need of government assistance.
She is more dependent on others for her survival.

What are you willing to give.

She gives two small copper coins.
She gives a small donation in monetary value.
She gives what she has.
She does not give from abundance.
She gives from all she has.

When two cents is more than a Million $.

Jesus is teaches us the value of our giving to him. The worth of our offering is measured by Jesus.

Jesus tells what is worth more.

Luke 21:3–4 NLT
3 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus said, “this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them. 4 For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has.”
“And He said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them; for they all out of their surplus put into the offering; but she out of her poverty put in all that she had to live on.””( NAS95)

We too must know the value system of the Lord.

Jesus shows us the value when you give not from your abundance but you give out of your poverty. When you give from what you do not have it shows the desire of giving truly to the Lord for the glory of the kingdom over the glory of self.
The widow gave out of her poverty.
Jesus points out she gave all that she had to the Lord.
She was willing to give it all to the Lord and not hold on to her last.
The rich gave from their wealth.
The wealth of this time is like a social post.
Let me give a humble brag of how I donated this great amount as I go back to my comfortable life.
We are not to give to brag and sow off. God calls us to give because it teaches us to depend on God and remind us of our dependance on him.
This is why Mose spoke this word of reflection to Israel in anticipation of receiving God’s blessing.
Deuteronomy 8:11–14 NLT
11 “But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. 12 For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, 13 and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful! 14 Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt.

Give it all to the one who gave you all.

God has not withheld his Son.
God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills ().
Psalm 24:1 NLT
1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.

We belong to the Lord.

He has blessed us to know him as his beloved possession.
Give all to the Lord who has given you everything already.
Know that God can cover you better than you can cover yourself.
Know the Lord will provided for you as you give to him he sees you.

Know who truly owns it all.

Store your treasures in heaven, the kingdom principle of giving!““Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys.“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” ( NAS95)
