Don’t Be Phony
Don’t Be Phony
1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
2 “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
DT: When Christians do good works to be seen and praised they jeopardize their rewards from God.
Aim: We will live to please God by giving God glory for all we do.
Introduction:
The purpose of our life is to bring and give God glory. How can God receive glory from our lives if everything we do is so that others exalt us?
This lesson is about humility. The last thing a Christian should be seen doing is parading and boasting about how good he is.
God wants you to feel good but feel good for Him being praised and receiving glory.

In some cases people were doing these things without true regard towards God. Their motives were to be seen and complimented. Their motives were to out do others and compare their records.
Living right is not a show thing. Living right is the act of glorifying God.
