Your Walk With God

Philippians 3:15–21 KJV 1900
15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. 17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. 18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
In concluding this section, Paul exhorts those who are mature to think in harmony with what he has just said, and promises that those who think differently about minor points will be enlightened by God if their attitude is right.
In Scripture, "walk" is often the term figuratively referring to a person's conduct or way or life.
This last section is about your walk
One of the highest compliments the Bible gives anyone is that they "walked with God." That's what was said about Enoch in . It so pleased God that, according to some Bible scholars, Enoch never tasted death – he was raptured to heaven by God ("...God took him").This last section is about your walk
John Maxwell - Your talk talks and your walk talks, but your walk talks louder than your talk talks.”
Walking with God is a way of life, and it is a choice. We can walk in God's ways or the ways of the world, but we cannot do both (; ; ; ).
Ephesians 2:2 KJV 1900
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Your walk
The path you choose
When you walk with someone obviously you won’t be going in opposite directions.
If you walk in a different direction you can’t listen to them, you can’t enjoy them, you can’t share things with them, and you won’t be able to understand them.
When you walk with the Lord, your will is going to align with His will.
Since you’re walking side by side with Him your focus will be on Him.
When you’re constantly walking with someone you’re going to understand them better than you ever did.
You’re going to know their heart. Walking with God is not just a time in the prayer closet, it’s a lifestyle that we can only obtain through Jesus Christ.
It’s a journey. Picture you’re going on a trip with your best friend who hates your pet alligator. You know that it doesn’t please him so because you love him so much you’re not going to bring it on the trip.
Illistration - My walk
In the same way you’re not going to bring along sin, and things that will hold you back. When you walk with God you choose to imitate Him and glorify Him in every way.
Is my daily conversation with Him
The choices I make
You walk determines you integrity
You walk reveals your honesty
You walk tells others what is important
Your walk reveals love
Your walk reveals compassion
Your walk tells others who you are and that you care

I. A Mature Walk

phil 3.
Philippians 3:15 KJV 1900
15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
“Mature” (NIV; KJV, “perfect”) is the correct rendering of teleioi, as Paul’s other five uses of the term referring to persons attest (; ; ; ; ).
Paul is saying that they should take his view of things and if they differ on some points God will straighten it out and make it clear.
A mature walk will follow the example of Paul.
“thus minded”
If you disagree on some minor points God will work it out...
1 Corinthians 2:6 KJV 1900
6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
A mature walk
He does not mean “sinless,” but is referring to a certain level of spiritual growth and stability in contrast to infants.
We are to have a mature walk
Paul was telling the people at Philippi that they have not arrived but their walk with God should reveal a degree of maturity.
1 Corinthians 13:11 KJV 1900
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
15b - If in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.
They generally agree but still differ on some isolated point, Paul is confident that God will lead them to the truth if their minds are open to his leading.
16 No one, however, must wait for God to reveal the truth on all points before he begins to give himself to spiritual growth.
Each believer should exercise fully the degree of maturity he already possesses.
Paul recognizes that Christians, though proceeding along the same path, may be at different stages of progress
What is in your life that reveals a mature walk
Please don’t answer by just rattling of the sins you do not commit

II. Watchful Walk

Philippians 3:17–19 KJV 1900
17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. 18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
phil 3.
Philippians 3:17–18 KJV 1900
17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. 18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

vs 17- Having set forth his life ambition to be more Christlike, Paul did not hesitate to tell the Philippians to follow his example.
Follow my example ------
A mature walk means you have a mentor and someone to help and follow....
Proverbs 27:17 KJV 1900
17 Iron sharpeneth iron; So a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
2 Timothy 2:2 KJV 1900
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
He wanted them to imitate him. Surely he did not mean that they should imitate every single area of his life, for he had just stated that he was not sinlessly perfect.
But in the matter of relentlessly pursuing after Christlikeness, he did set himself up as an example. Those Philippians who followed him would join with others who were already doing so.
1 Peter 2:12 KJV 1900
12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
The older should teach the younger .

A watchful walk looks at and follows mature Christian leaders.
People need see an example:
Once a mother took her child to Gandhi and asked him to advise her child not to eat too much sugar because it was bad for his health. Gandhi asked the mother and child to go and come back in 15 days. Fifteen days later, they came back. This time Gandhi told the child:”My son, please don’t eat too much sugar. It is really not good for your health”. To her surprise, the mother asked Gandhi: “Why didn’t you tell this statement last time we were here?” Gandhi replied: “Because I could not say something that I had not done myself. I needed 15 days to use less sugar and see the benefits. Then I could advise your son not to eat too much sugar.” That is what an authentic leader who leads by example does.
There are various reasons why leading by example matters. Following are five of them:
People need sample
One of the differences between leaders and followers is that followers need a model or sample to benchmark against.
Benchmarking here means comparing one’s course of action and its quality with a set standard or example.
As a leader, you initiate what you preach for and take the first step toward accomplishing it so that you become an ex-sample or example for your people to model and benchmark against. Without an example provided by leader, confusion may arise and people may not follow.
vs 17 The wrong example should stand out like a sore thumb.
The wrong example should stand out like a sore thumb.
key ------
Just as verse 17 describes those whom believers should follow, this passage tells of those we should not follow.
Many organizations come up with changes that need to be done for further growth and success. However, they fail to show the way through examples. When things are not clear people tend to fear change. They are not confident enough to embrace it. Leading by example gives people enough confidence to accept and apply the changes fully by following the role models.
The apostle does not identify these men specifically. Whether they were the Judaizing false teachers mentioned in verse 2, or professed Christian teachers who turned liberty into license, and used grace as a pretext for sin, he does not say.
Paul had warned the saints about these men previously, and he does so again with weeping. But why the tears in the midst of such a stern denunciation?
Because of the harm these men did among the churches of God.
Because of the lives they ruined.
Because of the reproach they brought on the name of Christ.
Because they were obscuring the true meaning of the cross.
Yes, but also because true love weeps even when denouncing the enemies of the cross of Christ, just as the Lord Jesus wept over the murderous city of Jerusalem.

III. Completed Walk

Philippians 3:20–21 KJV 1900
20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

The people of Philippi were living there as colonists while their citizenship was in Rome.
Similarly Christians, while living on earth, have their citizenship elsewhere—in heaven.
This contrasts with those in verse 19 whose minds are exclusively on earthly things.
The believer looks with keen anticipation for his Savior’s return from heaven
ultimately we will receive a new body
3:21 When the Lord Jesus comes from heaven, He will change these bodies of ours. There is nothing vile or evil about the human body in itself. The evil lies in the wrong uses to which it is put.
But it is a lowly body, a body of humiliation. It is subject to wrinkles, scars, age, suffering, sickness, and death. It limits and cramps us!
It’s all going to change a new body and new earth....
