Mark 7:31–37 NLT
31 Jesus left Tyre and went up to Sidon before going back to the Sea of Galilee and the region of the Ten Towns. 32 A deaf man with a speech impediment was brought to him, and the people begged Jesus to lay his hands on the man to heal him. 33 Jesus led him away from the crowd so they could be alone. He put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then, spitting on his own fingers, he touched the man’s tongue. 34 Looking up to heaven, he sighed and said, Ephphatha,” which means, “Be opened!” 35 Instantly the man could hear perfectly, and his tongue was freed so he could speak plainly! 36 Jesus told the crowd not to tell anyone, but the more he told them not to, the more they spread the news. 37 They were completely amazed and said again and again, “Everything he does is wonderful. He even makes the deaf to hear and gives speech to those who cannot speak.”

Touch

This second part of this seventh chapter centers on geography of the where Jesus was. In the first part he is challenged by the Pharisees and narrow thinking and so the scripture makes special mention that he leaves Jewish controlled lands and goes to lands populated by Gentiles or non Jewish people. he first heals the daughter of the
Syro Phoenician woman. And we learn the one must be persistent in prayer ,even when it appears are request have been denied.
Jesus leaves her and he says he travels to the area known as the Decapolis or ten town region, again an area populated by gentiles , non Jews.
And although Jesus came to redeem the children of Israel , he message was for everybody. His power was for everybody and his desire is for everybody to be saved.
This is a message that should resonate with us is the church, we saved folks. Jesus died for us. Jesus died on the cross so that i might be saved. he died and became the sacrifice that makes me free, but he didn’t just die for the household of faith. his deliverance is not just so we can be free. he came to free everybody. So, if Jesus came for everybody, then we can not turn are backs on the unsaved, we can not turn our backs on those we feel are not worthy, we can not allow our salvation to be a block to the unsaved but our salvation must be a bridge to the unsaved.
it says in verse 32 then they brought to him one that was deaf and had an impediment of speech.
Many times people who are deaf do not talk right because they have never heard the proper sounding of words. Even though they can see the sounding of the words they can’t hear the sounds. This man had an impediment of his speech and he could not hear.
Again it was a they that brought the man to jesus.
They are unknown, too many times we have to be known. We do not have to receive credit for everything. What we do we do for Jesus , not credit, what we do is for the glory of God not so that we can be noticed or that we can get credit. Many times i don’t like the they , because they said has caused many of problem. but in this incident i like what hey did.
Laying on the hands could be for healing for Jesus healed many times with a touch,
Laying on the hands could be for a general blessing, asking for good health happiness or that god move in your life.
laying on your hands was also used to set people apart for a particular work.
Laying on the hands often signified the coming of the spirit.
For they knew that if he could be touched by jesus if he would be be blessed by Jesus.
They did not ask to heal him , only touch him
they did not ask for wealth only touch himm
they did not question who Jesus was
They may have assumed that they knew what was needed but they put it in the hands of Jesus.
We need to take an example from these people in this scripture they simply wanted to bring this man to Jesus to be touched, so that he could lay his hands on him.
We too should merely request the touch of the master’s hand. knowing that if I can just make it to the master’s hand he will see fit to move me in the right way.
We too, should want Jesus to lay his hands on us. because he hand may bring healing, his hand may bring peace his hand may bring the holy spirit.

Faith triggers

Scripture says that Jesus didn’t reject these people and there request but he simply led the man away from the crowd. so they could be alone. Sometimes, you need to be alone with Jesus. I believe in corporate worship. Church worship I believe in that. I believe in corporate/ group prayer, two or three gathered together. But sometimes it needs to be just you and your Jesus. Not the preacher’s Jesus , not your momma or your Daddy’s jesus but your Jesus. Have you ever had a time when you were alone with your Jesus. When no matter what you knew that it was just you and Jesus. If you haven’t not had your encounter with jesus. Have you had your alone time with Jesus.
Jesus leads him away ,put’s his fingers in his ears, touches his tongue prays and then speaks Ephphatha Be opened , and Instantly the man can hear and speak plainly.
This is the part of the scripture that got me ya’ll. Can you see read that part of the scripture again!
Why did Jesus have to touch him if he was going to cure him with a word.
The second thing is that if the man couldn’t hear the word why then would it have cured him, if he could not hear it.
Jesus touched the man not to cure him, but to allow the man to understand and believe in what Jesus was doing.
like pointing something out to a blind man.
but the creature responded to the creator.
Do you remember the scripture found in Mark 6, Matt 13, where Jesus was rejected in Nazareth, and he said a prophet get no honor
in his home. Those scriptures end with he could do no great deeds of power because of their unbelief.
So Jeus had to get the deaf man to understnd and believe thatwhat he was going to do.
His faith needed to be triggered and it was triggered by the touching.
it is not the prayer cloth nor this oil that heals you it your faith that is triggered by the oil or the prayer cloth that heals you. it is an aid in healing.
oil, water, faith

Open

Now Jesus speaks be open. And even though the man can hear the word he is healed.
You see Jesus does not have to be there to heal you. his presence in the spirit will hear you. Luke 7th chapter,When the Centurion’s servant was sick jesus spoke healing remotely.
Jesus prayed to heaven and healed the deaf man, but also gave him clear speech.
Everything through God in prayer!
he fixed what was broken and corrected that which was wrong when he opened the man ears. I believe some of us broken in need of fixing. I also believe some of us need to be corrected. For many of us need to open our ears and hear what the Lord is saying to us , open our ears and see what the Lord has for us. We have been doing things , but like the man’s speech it has been wrong. it has not been clear or or on point. WE WANT THE BLESSING WITHOUT THE WORK. We ant the blessing without the work.
We want Jesus to be on front street for us , when we are never on front street for him.
What benefit is there for Jesus to heal us , if when healthy we ignore him!
What benefit to Jesus to give us a good man or woman when you are not going to promote a family devoted to Christ.
Why give you a financial blessing for you to spend it on the devil’s toys.
he who has ears let him hear!
he that has eyes ket him see! be open!
be truthful see what the lord has for you!
but see what you have for the Lord!
Some of us may be able to hear sounds and words but we are spiritually deaf.
Or we are partially deaf for we hear only what we want to hear!
Some of us can see but we are spiritually blind because we see only what we want to see.
But God is asking to you to open your selves to Christ. Open your elf to the way.
I know it may not be easy but god is speaking and you need to hear.
In Isaiah it says do not be afraid, be strong because your god is coming, he will destry your enemies, he is coming to save you and he will open the eyes of the blind, unplug the ears of the deaf and the lame will jump like dear and those who can not speak will sing for joy.
that is Jesus !
For it is God who made you. it is GOd that can fix you.
God will !
Jesus spoke open, a word of omnipotence ,of power , but also a word of grace and mercy
He is speaking the word be open to all of us! For he has done great things, praise him for his perfection, praise him for his goodness , praise him for his glory.
for everything he does well
he is an amazing god
a good god
healing to the sick
peace to the troubled
rest to the weary
hope to the lost
peace to the distressed
a home to the lost
safety to the
sight to the blind

all these things so that you can praise him
praise him for your healing
praise him for your peace
praise him for sight
praise him for your hearing
praise him
