Introduction

John Scriven, The Irish Poet, Preacher, and writer wrote a Poem in the early 1800’s that would later on in life become a resounding hymn to the children of God.

His Poem turned hymn says: “What a Friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and grief’s to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!

The Word “EVERYTHING” is an Indefinite Pronoun. Words like, EVERYONE, EVERYBODY, EVERYTHING, and EVERYWHERE are used to refer to the totality of people, things, and places, EVERYTHING = ALL!!

To EVERYTHING there is a Season

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart

And we know that all things work together for good

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

EVERYTHING MEANS YOU CAN TAKE ALLTHINGS TO GOD IN PRAYER!!

Come here Albertina Walker: “Makes no difference what the problem, I can go to God in prayer”!!!

1. THE PATTERN V. 1-4

Jesus was the greatest example of one who had a prayer life.

He Prayed at His Baptism

He Prayed during His Temptation

He Prayed all night

He was alone Praying

He went up into a mountain to pray

And here in he’s Praying in a certain place.

Jesus prayed often and emphasized prayer as one of the greatest needs of humanity.

Place

He prayed as a Son to His Father and such intimacy stirred the disciples to want the same kind of relationship with God. Something caught the ear of the disciples, for the Bible said one of His disciples said Lord, teach us to pray as John also taught his disciples.

Jesus gives them a Pattern as a guide in which we are to pray. He says, “When you Pray” or “AFTER THIS MANOR”

Our Father - HIS PERSONALITY

Who are’t in Heaven -HIS POSITION

Hallowed be thy name - HIS PRAISE

Thy Kingdom Come -

Thy Will Be Done -

As in Heaven, so in Earth -

Give us this day our daily Bread -

Forgive us our Sins -

For we also forgive every one that is indebted to us -

And Lead us not into temptation -

But Deliver us from evil -

The Parable – v.5-8

Jesus also spoke in Parables:

The Lost Sheep
The Good Samaritan
The Rich Fool
The Barren Fig Tree
The Lost Coin
The Prodigal Son
And the list goes on and on and on, BUT HERE JESUS SPEAKS OF FRIEND!

The Bible says a Friend Loveth at all times and a brother is made for adversity.

Proverbs says “A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a Brother”

Jesus asks a Question: V 5-6

V 7 - Someone answers within

V8 - HERE COME THE SHOUT!!!!! - “IMPORTUNITY” = GREEK: ANAIDIA (A-ni-di Ya) means PERSISTENT TO THE POINT OF ALL MOST SHAMELESSNESS....

BECAUSE OF THE FRIENDS PERSISTENCE HE WILL RISE AND GIVE HIM AS AS MANY LOAVES OF BREAD AS NEEDED!!!

3. The Promises –v. 9-13

Ask - “And it shall be given”

Seek - “And Ye shall Find”

Knock - “And it shall be open to you”
