Why Confess?

Proverbs 28:13 NIV
13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
Prov
1 John 1:9 NIV
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
James 5:13–16 NIV
13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

How to Confess?

Three Kinds of Confession:

Private (between you and God)
Job (Job 42:1-6)
Personal (between you and a trusted believer)
David and Nathan (2 Sam. 12:13)
Public (between you and everyone)
Zacchaeus ()

Partner to Confession: Repentance

The Confession of the person who is “sorry” they were caught vs. the confession of the person who is truly sorry for what they have done and want to change their ways.
