13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 16 Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. 18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.
James
19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. 26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.

I am tempted of Fod
James is rebuking those who put blame for temptation on God.
God cannot be tempted with evil neither does he tempt any man
Testing Does not come from God, he allows it but does he does not initiate it.

in addition to this God does not tempt with sin but he allows the divil to...
note the book of Job
10 But he knoweth the way that I take: When he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
This is what the road of dicipleship does… we go through in our lives chllenges and dificulties but when we come through we will do so like pure gold
How does temptation occur?
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Temptation happends when we follow our own evil desires.
When we focus on the things of above we are much less lickly to fall to temptation
drawn away of His own lusts
our desires outside of the spirit are what leads to sin
it is importent to know your weeknesses and cobat them
He is enticed
don’t put yourself in compromizing situations
ultemetly we need to call sin sin falure to call sin sin is sin
Sin is sin and that is what sin is
This being said we need to not call christian liberty areas sin, we have been going through that in sunday School...
if it is not a clear teaching in scripture and we place it as a Biblical requirment upon others we have sinned.
Sin
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Desires themselves are not sin but when we let that desire control us, it becomes sin.
When we let our desires control us those desires birth sin. and if we allow sin to control us it only brings on death and destruction
When it is conceived in brings sin
sin when it is finished brings death.
God gives good (16-18)
God gives good (16-18)
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. 18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
James gives a final reminder after telling his readers that temptation does not come God he flips the script. and tells them what does come from God
What does come from God
every good
27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
every perfect
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
James 1:28
father of lights=father of all hevenly bodies
continues saying this father does not change therfore the good and perfect things will not change
Isnt it wonderful to know we serve a God who does not change among are ever changing culture..
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
James here contrasts what sin does to what Christ does and what Christ does is give us birth
23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
He chose us
He gave us spiritual birth
We have seen that as Christians God cares for us even when trials come in addition we know that He is the sourse of any good that has ever happened to us.
by the word of truth
Here James completes this with one of God’s greatest gifts to us. this gift is new life in Christ this is not nesesarily a thought we are thinking in the middle of trils, but we should
We are the firsfruits of his creatures
What is the word of truth? two posibilities
Christ as the means by which he saved us
Gods act of creation bringing us to life as He brought the world to life with a word
either if theese are ligitmate posibilities and would fow with the original language meaning of the word LOGOS
The bottom line is we are the firstfruits of creation This verse alond debunks any argument that we are just another animal, we are as the text says the firsfruits of all of his creatchers

18 By his own choice, he gave us birth by the word of truth so that we would be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
We need no other evidence that God id good and loving, powerful and faithful to us.

no matter how dark your circumstances nothing can change the enormous good gift that God has given to us in christ.

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes in the Dispersion: Greetings. 2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. 9 Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, 10 and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits. 12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. 18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. 27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
