Jesus is our High Priest forever who sits at the right of God and intercedes for us. Discussing how He does it and still represents us before God. How praying in His name is an exact representation of us, as He were praying the prayer.

In Order of Melchizedek

Hebrews 7:17 NIV

17 For it is declared: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”

Melchizedek was the High Priest of God before the tribe of Levi.

The Levites were in charge of priesthood and the tabernacle of God.

God makes Jesus His High Priest Forever!

Hebrews 7:

Hebrews 7:21 NIV

21 but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him: “The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: ‘You are a priest forever.’ ”

Jesus is alive because He was resurrected by Spirit of God and lives an endless life.

Therefore, His life represents us before God the Father as High Priest.

Hebrews 7:23–28 NIV

23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; 24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. 26 Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.

Leviticus 1:14–17 NIV

14 “ ‘If the offering to the Lord is a burnt offering of birds, you are to offer a dove or a young pigeon. 15 The priest shall bring it to the altar, wring off the head and burn it on the altar; its blood shall be drained out on the side of the altar. 16 He is to remove the crop and the feathers and throw them down east of the altar where the ashes are. 17 He shall tear it open by the wings, not dividing it completely, and then the priest shall burn it on the wood that is burning on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.

This is a burnt offering. The Lord will ignite the fire and it was the duty of priests to keep it burning and never letting it go out.

The bird here is like prayer that you offer up to God, but as you see the bird isn’t perfect and stuff from it have to removed like the “crop” and “feathers”.

That’s how our prayers are also, but as you see it is the Priest who removes the extra stuff that’s unacceptable to the Lord in the burnt offering.

No one knows how to pray the perfect prayer, but Jesus showed us how to pray in a way that lets us know our prayers will be heard and answered.

John 14:12–14 NIV

12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

The reason we pray in Jesus name is because its a stamp on our prayer to the Father as if Jesus is praying the prayer Himself.

As High Priest He is interceding for us, praying the perfect prayers for us, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.

He takes our prayers as Priest and just like bird from which the crop and feathers are removed, He then removes things from the prayers that are not good and pleasant to the Father.

He sanctifies them and purifies the prayer through the fire that fell on Him at Calvary that still burns which reminds God the Father of the perfect finished work of His Son Jesus that now is a High Priest forever.

However, Jesus Himself is submitted to the Father’s will always and His prayers not always were answered.

Luke 22:42 NIV

42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

Jesus as High Priest knows that His Father’s will must always be done.

That’s why He ministers before the Father always and takes our prayers sanctifying them. Making the perfect prayer aligning them to Father’s perfect will.
